Hello!
So I have been in Tokyo for 2 days now and I have leart alot. Such as:
- You stand on the left side of the escalator here.
- Tokyo is very safe- people leave their umbrellas and shopping outside the shops! They barely even pick up the tip that you leave them.
- It is very expensive to buy alcohol when out! Most drinks around 1000¥! That`s including beer (and not even pints) and is somewhere around 7-8 quid!
- Japanese people are very polite, but shy. Yuo`ll be lucky to make eye contact with anyone not there to serve you! So virtually impossible to actually meet local people!
- Japanese are very honest. The taxi driver did not try charge me the price he had originally given me when the taxameter showed significantly less at the end of the journey.
- There are coffee shops EVERYWHERE! Coffee, coffee, coffee!
- They have really cool vending machines and they are everywhere and serve both hot and cold drinks (many of them coffee!) but also beer. No food or snacks in the vending machines though.
- They say "hai" to almost everything. Means "yes" but I think they use it for hello, goodbye, OK, and so on! :)
Yesterday I went to Electric City which was brilliant! You get these huge arcades where people sit in rows and rows playing computer games. It`s so big, mind that it kind of overwhelms and I ended up not buying thing! :D
Went out on the town last night but did not have a good time as I didn`t listen to intuition. On advice from a really nice Samoan guy I decided to go to Rappongi area. Met some English girls (snobs) en route and went to a club with them. It was s***e and the girls were not the type of peolpe I would normally choose to spend any time with. Up their own arses pretty much! Unfortunately I had missed the last train and the next one not being until 5:30 am I got a taxi back and it wasn`t that expensive (as I had been warned it would be) so was a good choice! Before that mind I played some guitar hero (badly) in one of the arcades! :D Roppongi is cool mind! Big, crazy nd gull of bars and nightclubs!
I`ve met a couple of Swedes - Sonia and Jesper (or it might have been Kasper, but definitely not Jonatan). Going for dinner with them tonight which should be nice. :)
Weather here is not great. Really windy today and quite cold too. I am looking forward to the next leg of my trip. Australia shuold be a lot easier. Japan is exhausting on your own with no knowledge of the culture! :)
Peace all!
