New Zealand!
Well its true the action capital of the world, there always seem to be some new craz bold extreme sport on offer here! The country appears to be a cross between England and the US, but far quieter, all the cities are small towns, all the towns are villages and so on.....Oh and of course the biggest difference here, is the jaw dropping beauty this country radiats round every bend.
After spending a few days in Christchurch trying to re=acclimatise to the western styled living again, we managed to visit a art gallery, see some pretty flowers and engage in a full on battle with the mountainous terrain the local area had to offer, armed only with a mountain bike and some water! After some epic epic hill climbs we were rewarded with some fantastic views and then my favourite, the 1minute full thottled ride back down the mountain which took us well over an hour to climb!
After a few days in Christchurch we were glad to get on the move, and begin our Kiwi Experience, leaving at 7am for Kakoura, where we visited many seals lounging around in the rain against the shoreline.....apparently these chunky fellas have been known to attack and so we kept our distance!
Kakoura is known for its water encounters, and so Nick embraced the Dolphin Swimming at 5am in the morning, something which im saving for the way back through, although im hoping for a slightly later time!
After Kakoura we joined our bus accross to Nelson, took a walk to see the centre of NZ and had a nice roast lamb dinner – missed the Sunday roasts so much! The following day we visited the Abel Tasman National Park on a Kayak tour, which was v beautiful and peaceful, was a big big day ofpaddling thou, arms have only justrecovered from it now i think. Now what with it being Valentines Day, we celebrated in style by getting 5 English girls that we’d been hanging out with over the last few days to cook us a lovely dinner.......all we had to do was provide the wine and a rose for each of them! Ideal!
Following morning it was again an early leave for the Nelson national park and a swim in the gorgeous lake there, with the mountains in the backdrop it made a very picturesque setting indeed. After this we rolled on to our first exteme activity; Jet boating.......wicked fun, skimming on less than a foot of water at 50kmh....pulling 360 spins at speed and swearving last minute to avoid rocks! Ok, thats where were up to so far, one thing about this travelling is u really do so so much in a day, makes you absolutly shattered, but totally appreitative for what you have done!
Last night we had stayed in a hotel in the middle of nowhere, run by a guy called Les, who is 86 odd and is up at all hours making sure u have a fun stay.....Now this was a special night, as it was a themed party, so we all stopped in town (some 100 of us, as 2 busses) to prepareour costumes, the theme was the beach, so i decieded to go as a mermaid! This involved taping my legs together with a silver duck tape and wearing bikini top etc......was truelly hilarious as i had to hop absolutly everywhere all night! Awesome party, feeling slightly worse for wear now thou, but have an evening off to chilax before our Glacier hike tomo, cant wait!
This whole West Coast Kiwi experience is wicked as everyone is doing the same trip, so u get to know everyone on your bus really well, fab atmosphere.........
Right Next time u hear from me i will prob have done the bungy jump, canyon swing, luge and god knows what else that may take my fancy! I am of course spending far too much money on these thrills, but hey when in rome.......
