Long journey East: London - Singapore - Bangkok
I must admit, lomg haul flight with Singapore Airlines wasn't even half as bad as I expected. It was quite ok actually. Except fpr the Singapore-Bangkok bit when they gave my gluten free meal to some plonker behind me who happily accepted it. I had chicken (yuk) and potatoes insted.
Arrived in bangkok little ahead of time and decided to take a bus instead of a cab (saving money from the start). The ride was quick and I got off on Khao San Road. It was supposed to be only a short walk to my hostel, 5 minutes, but it took me 15 because of the crowds. I swear that by the time I got there the weight of my backpack trippled. I wanted to chuck half of my stuff the moment I got to the Wild Orchid Villa! I guess it's the heat.
The hostel looks exactly like on its website. I'm glad I paid for an air-con room and private bathroom. It's totally worth the steep 1600 baht fee. Especially for the first two nights before I get used to the weather. Unfortunstely they didn't put any drinking water in my room so I didn't dare to brush my teeth until I got some from the 7/11.
Shawered and refreshed I went to get some food. Again I played it safe and chose Pad Thai over hawkers food. It was still very cheap, 80 baht, and delish. Just like the one from Busaba minus the awful dried shrimps.
Not planning to do much tomorrow, except for stuffing my face with fruit and fresh coconut water. I might try to do a river cruise and go to one of the floating markets. Anything to escape the madness of this city. The crowded streets and the night markets remind me of a Polish sea resort in summer. Busy, noisy, smelly but lacking charm. Every time I catch a waft of yummy food it is stained with the smell of raw sewage. But I guess it's the matter of getting used to the melange of things.
I'll be practicing tomorrow:)
