First month in Poland
This is a re-run of what I have already written before Christmas.
Having arrived in Lodz, at my parent's place I needed time to unpack and even more importantly adjust to living with my parents again. I haven't lived with them since 1998 so you can imagine that it wasn't easy at first. However I have to give it to them they are extremely easy going.
Once I've settled I needed to search the internet and local shops for the supply of wheat free products. To my suprise I found a shop, 10 minute walk away, fully stocked with spelt flour, pasta and other organic products, like oat milk drink, rice milk, molassas etc. This has inspired a baker in me and two weeks ago I have baked my first spelt bread that was surprisingly tasty. It took a lot of kneading though (see above). Since then I have tried another recipe for a simple, yeast free spelt bread (somthing for you Isabel, http://allrecipes.com//Recipe/very-simple-spelt-bread/Detail.aspx). It may not be as tasty as the first one but, indeed, it is simple.
Having established a stable source of bread I decided to visit my best friend in a holy city of Czestochowa. It was a very fruitful visit. Large amounts of alcoholic beverages were consumed over 5 days and numerous past events and adventures were remembered.
When I returned from my friend's last Wednesday I was swiftly commissioned by my mother to do Christmas shopping. Some of you know how much I 'love' shopping. However I have somehow managed to get almost everything on my mum's list.
I have also realised that my life has really slowed down and I can barely fit two errands a day (days are short, and there is a lot of snow everywhere so it takes time to get things done...)
Anyway, enough with excuses. Today I decided it's time to say 'hello' (before I disappear skiing for another couple of weeks) and wish you all fantastic Christmas break and all the happiness and prosperity in the New Year 2011 - Szczesliwego Nowego Roku!!!!
