Yo yo diddly o,
So the date is 9th, Christmas is nearly upon us...........crazy!!!
I am currently sat on a bus heading up the East coast of Mexico, bound for Playa Del Carmen, the opposite way I am needing to go, but it is meant to be a cool place and I am with a great group, so what the hay.
So before this Anna and I rocked up in Tulum (on Sunday 4th) with the intension of staying there for one night. We met a guy from Alaska who raved about this hostel called Hostal Posada los Mapaches, so Anna and I decided to stay there. It was pretty awesome from the word go, free Internet, free bike, free snorkel and mask, free breakfast and it looked really nice, for 220 pesos a night that is pretty sweet.
As soon as we chucked our stuff in our dorm room we headed out on the bikes to see the ruins. On our way out of the door we met 2 cool Australian guys called Rhys and Alex (who are now part of our close little group) who came out with us to the ruins. Unfortunately being a Sunday the ruins shut a little earlier so we weren't able to catch the ruins. Instead we just hit a bar on the gorgeous beach for an afternoon beer.
Just a segway on the blog, I have another stupid disease thing that I have managed to do to my battered left leg. I laced it with steroid cream, meant to be used sparingly for the little bit of exhma that I get on my knee (nice I know). However instead of it now itching it is absolute agony. My knee has blown up like a balloon and looks disgusting, I'll take pictures to document it :) So once again I am hobbling around. I'll have to create a disease gallery on Facebook when I get back as I am building quite a collection. I call this one gammy-leg-ititus.
Back to the activities. After a few beers on the beach we headdress back to the hostel before heading out properly. Our cool room mates Karen (Scottish)) and Anya (German) also joined us (and the group) to a really nice beach front bar for a salsa party, which was pretty sweet. However Anna and I left Rhys and the rest early because Anna still wasn't feeling too great and I was in absolute pain with my leg...............bad times.
The following morning after an amazing breakfast we all hopped on our bikes and headed for the ruins. It costs 100 pesos to enter and is super close to our cool hostel. The ruins were really impressive, some of the best i have seen on this trip, and I have seen a few. The setting right on the beach is just so nice, the Mayans here definitely got it right on their choice of location, check out the photos when I manage to load them up.
The ruins also have direct access to the amazing beach, so we smashed the beach for the rest of the day. The weather has been pretty sweet in Tulum.
Bar visiting the ruins everyday, this was pretty much what we did for 3 or 4 days, hitting the beach by day and all going out at night. The group are all really cool, we all clicked straight away which is always nice and Tulum is a really nice spot.
Rhys's girlfriend Gen flew over from Australia whilst we were in Tulum too, which is really cool, she cracks me up (another cool squad member added).
So I am resuming the blog from a place called Hostel Rio in Playa, which is really nice. Playa is far more touristy than Tulum, but really nice all the same. It has all of your shop chains that you would find back home, kinda like MK, but 10 times nicer :)
The days and nights proceedings have pretty much followed that of Tulum, hitting the really nice beach by day (although not as nice a beach as the one in Tulum) and going out on the lash by night. The buzz in Playa is a lot better than Tulum, purely because there are loads of people here and lots of places to visit, which are a result of this being a popular holiday destination.
I feel that I am being a bit vague on this blog, purely because I am currently bored of writing this one :). I do apologise, as it may not do the people I am with nor the places that I am staying with justice. I can assure you that I am definitely with some of the best, if not the best group of people I have met thus far and I have met some amazing people along my way. The hostels that we have chosen have also been great.
On Friday night, myself, Rhys, Jen and Alex went to Coco Bongos, a famous club and probably the biggest in Playa. It isn't just a club though, for $60 you get all that you can drink for the entire night and loads of entertainment on a grand scale. It is more like Las Vegas than Mexico, they had Elvis impersonators, Queen, Michael Jackson (he was amazing). There was also Cirque De Solei (probably spelt wrong), but people doing acrobatics on the silk robes from the ceiling above the bar, which was pretty crazy too - this place is proper massive.
If anyone gets the chance to come here, I would definitely say that it is well worth the money to see.
Today is now the 12th and there are loads of us heading back to Tulum. There is a big party tonight, which should be cool. So today's activities will probably include some extreme frisby on the beach and some chilling.
I hope that everyone is well and getting in the festive spirit back home.
I think that is all from me for now.
Adios amigos x
