Hola everyone,
My apologies for such a lengthy delay to the blog entries.
Anywho, after arriving in Antigua via 5 chicken buses from Mexico (what an adventure) I was home for the next 2 weeks with my host family, who are lovely by the way. Ilse and Oscar have been my host Mama and Papa and both speak little English, but that was great for developing my Spanish.
For anyone thinking of coming to Antigua, DO IT!!! it is an absolutely beautiful place, surrounded on all sides by volcanoes and mountains. The night life here is amazing too, it's ladies night somewhere every night of the week, cheap for the ladies, not so for the men...........always the way :s
The night life is really good though and the Guatemalan ladies here are gorgeous, good all round really :). I have already dabbled with a couple...........it would be rude not to ay ;)
Anyway back to the daily activities, Spanish school has been great, my teacher Amanda is awesome and really funny, we get on like a house on fire. I feel like my Spanish has come a long way since being here for just 2 weeks, I'd say I am maybe a 4 or 5 out of 10.
Oh yeah I forgot to say that I fell in love with one of the teachers at the school too..........eek, she is gorgeous though, but unfortunately she is married already - DOH!!! Her name is Antonia and she works at the Mundo Spanish school, for anyone who visits in the future :)
Back to the Spanish and not my lust for Antonia :) It also helps that we have loads of Guatemalan friends here in Antigua in our group as Alex from the home stay has been here for 3 months, so is practically a local :). That helps the Spanish a load more than school probably. I find that I speak a load more Spanish when I am intoxicated too than when I am sober, it must purely be a confidence thing :)
Alex and Amanda from the home stay are great, we are like a little family away from home now which is really cool, I have 2 lovely wing ladies to help me along when I am out hehe :)
I feel that I have enough Spanish to get me by now, but I am eager to learn more, either on this trip or back home.
I feel like I am really writing badly today, I do apologize if this is the case, I am like and then........and then.........sorry.
Anyway I have been up to other stuff whilst being here other than Spanish school, and drinking loads. I climbed Pacaya, the only remaining active Volcano surrounding Antigua. It was a pure spectacle, absolutely out of this world, there were lava streams running near us and the heat was out of this world, it was literally like opening the door of a scorching hot oven x10. We cooked Marshmallows on the scorching rocks too which was really cool, literally the best way to cook marshmallows.
The volcano was amazing, I'd definitely recommend it. The weekend just gone, myself Amanda, Alex and 5 other Germans visited Lake Atitlan, another amazing spectacle situated a couple of hours from Antigua. It is an amazing lake surrounded by gorgeous mountains. However the Germans, including Alex, who is also German, literally just spoke German the whole time, even though they could speak English, how rude :) Granted I can't speak any German but come on. I'll let them off purely because Alex is lovely.
Back to the lake we stayed in Santiago for the night after arriving in Panajachel earlier that day by shuttle bus. It is all very nice there, however Amanda really wasn't feeling all that well, so that morning after catching a short boat journey to San Pedro for some breakfast with everyone, I escorted her back to Panajachel, like the gentleman that I am :)
The other guys grabbed a boat to San Marcos, where they planned to walk there way along the lake back to Panajachel. Unfortunately we discovered on there return that they were ambushed by 3 teenagers with knives who took all of their cameras and back packs.........bad times. Well done Amanda for being ill, she saved me from getting robbed.
So after the horrible incident of basically all of our group getting robbed, we headed back to Antigua. I had to catch another shuttle to the airport to meet Anna for 9, this fortunately went without a hitch and she is now with me in Antigua.
We are staying at the Black Cat Hostel, which is really nice. No more home stay and my lovely Amanda and Alex :( which is a little sad.
Apart from getting really ill on the first night that Anna was here, all is good, I am feeling a little better now, however I did spew earlier - not nice.
That is all for now, again my apologies if this blog isn't coherent.
Love you all X
