next stop after noosa took us to surfers paradise....we had been warned it was very touristy and thats exactly what we found. after locating our hostel...which took twice as long as it should have done because our resident boy scout( webby) was reading the wrong map. we ended up in a hostel callied cheers which turned out to have some of the hottest rooms we have ever slept in, lack of ac and even lack of fans. nothing really to do in surfers paradise other than walk around the many shops, nothing new really and enjoy their nightlife (mmmm interesting) personally i hated surfers....too many high rise hotels on the beach and to much resembelence to benidorm. we made sure we entertained ourselves with a visit to hooters.....purely for the chicken wings and even managed two rounds of putt putt golf.1st rouind webby won by 2 shots and then the second round became very competitive. pedro smashed the field on the "harder" course followed by webby and i made a horrendous show by taking 11 shots just to complete the first two holes ( i obviously sacked the caddy after that poor decision from him).
next stop on the greyhound bus took us to byron bay, we had heard good things about this place and it certainly didnt disapoint. we only had to spend one day here to decide it was one of our favorite stops so far. our hostel was very central and was an easy walk into the laid back, easy going town of byron. we spent most of our time on the beach during the day, briefly taking advantage of free surfboard rentals....we still cant surf thats for sure. we took on the lenghty treck up to the famous lighthouse and the most easterly point in mainland oz. pretty cool walk but was made better as the sun set on our way back home. amazing photos from that time (will be put up soon). the nightime took us to cheeky monkeys which was just across the road from the hostel, loads of dancing on tables, cheesy music and good times( if you have visited cheeky monkeys you will know exactly what we got up to).
although we didnt want to leave byron we boarded our 14hour bus to sydney. not good for me as i have found i have an inability to sleep on buses, despite taking sleeping tablets i was awake for at least 12 hours of the journey. once we arrived in sydney wwe had a ten minute drag to our hostel where we dumped our bags and went exploring. we arrived on australia day so there was loads going on. we are staying right in the centre of the city and about 10 minutes walk to darling harbour where loads of people were heading for the celebrations. unfortunately it rained all day so we chose to catch up with friends that we met in thailand instead. next day was pedro's birthday so after a late start we went to the sydney aquarium. we had to see the mysterious dugongs (kind like manatese but different). they also have some massive sharks and manta rays there, the evening took us out for karaoke and webby and pedro performed a.....well different version of summer nights. today took us out to bondi beach for some much needed relaxation, tomorrow will take us to manley beach for our last day before we leave for melbourne. luckily we have finally managed to sort out our flights to melbourne and our means of getting around new zealand.
we have heard recent temperature have reached 41-46 degrees in melbourne so we are probably going to melt...sorry to rub it in but im sure temperatures are similar back home and im sure you are all wandering around in board shorts and not much else aswell.
hope everyone is doing well and i promise photos will be here soon- once i can find a computer that will let me load phtotos
tatty bye
