Hello from Hanoi. Still in Vietnam and loving it...it seems the further north we go the better it gets :).
Had to suffer two pretty horrendous night trains with beds about 2 metres wide (my fat arse wasnt too impressed) to get here but it was worth it!
When we got to Vietnam it was 6.30 in the morning and we got picked up at 8.30 to go to a beach party on a private beach that was absolutly gorgeous. All food and drink was included (so in true brit style we thought it'd be rude not to take the piss...hammered and full as a bandits riffel by about 11). We then headed to the mud springs spas where we had the most AMAZIN mud bath and hot spa.
At the night time we met up with a few people for some grub and wee drinkies (as if we hadnt had enough in the day) and ended up skinny dippin in the sea outside the sailors club (which was a 5* bar...so its safe to say we did it in style!)
The next day...perhaps wasnt so good! We went on a snorkelling tour because Dave got giddy at the mention of sharks (he thought he was gettin in with them). Both of us were slightly peeved when the first stop was an aquarium...and I can tell you that theres more to see at Seaworld. We did get to hand feed turtles which was the only real saving grace. The second stop was where we went 'snorkellin'...saw about 3 fish, and it was so cold and raining that i spent the rest of the trip lookin like i was smugglin peanuts.
Third stop was the one we were looking forward to the most, where we had been promised a free happy hour on a floating coctail bar...this turned out to be an old man in a rubber ring with a bucket full of something. This was cut quite short though when one of the girls on the boat (which, by the way, was like an ancient fishing boat - David thought we were getting a Catermeran) jumped off and caught her leg on one of the ropes so we had to turn back (selfish b**** lol).
By the fourth and final stop (the private beach) we'd given up the will to live and just stayed on the boat. We thought we were in when we got offered some of the coctail mixture we were supposed to be having...until we tasted it...petrol mixed with orange?
Another night train that night and the hotel we stayed in in the last place was beautiful (its actually spoilt us quite a bit), so we took full advantage and spent two days relaxing around the pool. David went to the beach (i was too lazy) on a bike ride...went bodyboarding and there was a bit of a festival on so he threw out some shapes with the locals.
Now in Ha Noi. Yesterday went on a bit of a boat trip to see some more tombs and temples and what not. We just cant wait to get to the elephant trekking and bambo rafting now :) (once youve seen one set of ruins youve seen them all!!)
Lots of love
Sheree and Dave
Ps. forgot to mention that in Cambodia we tried frog, cricket and fried squid (and Dave also tried a beetle and a grub...we wouldnt be recommending them any time soon!)
Pps. we have become proper penny pinchers and refuse to pay over $3 for a meal...also Dave is now wearing $2 tank tops...gone are his all saints days (im loving it :D) xx
