Hey guys,
Apologies for the very sparse updates of late, we've not been in the same place for more than one or two days for the past few weeks. The last 4 days alone we've had 2 10 hour boat journeys, a 9 hour coach journey and 13 hours on the overnight train...all to get back to Bangkok.
We were glad to leave Vietnam in the end as the capital (Hanoi) was so scruffy. Really dirty, and our stomachs couldnt stand the food much longer (David's down to 6 pairs of duds), and literally nowhere seemed to sell vodka (withdrawal symptoms were setting in for me).
We're missing Laos already though. It was a lot like Cambodia, cheap beer which was always flowing and the food was much better. The best 2 places we went to were Vieng Veng and Luang Prubang.
The first night in Vieng Veng we went out to a 'bucket bar'...it didnt dissappoint, the buckets were a-flowing...the whiskey ones were free! Stumbled home that night ready for tubing the next day. Tubing was...AMAZING! it was like a lazy river and we got pulled into bars. Plenty of free shots and free chips in one bar (perfect for drunken munchies!).
Luang Prubang was where we embarked on the elephant trekking. We FINALLY managed to get a card reader so there are pictures which should be up now :).
Its new year at the moment so for 3 days everyones off work and they party in the streets, drinking all day and throwing water over everyone, apparently to bless them (though i dont know how holy the water is, it doesnt smell too savory!).
Tonight is our last night with the group, and we have to find somewhere else to stay on our own tomorrow night. Who knows what we're going to end up in with our luck.
We've both caught quite a bit of sun now (yet I still insist on wearing the same shade of makeup so David looks like hes going out with wacko jacko), and we've ditched most of our clothes in favour of $2 vests (very sexy).
We have a few days in Bangkok now until we go to New Zealand. We'll miss Asia, but will be happy to get back to Western civilisation (I know I will never snub a public toilet again).
Feel free to take a ganders at the pictures (I hope they make you happy Cathy! :D)
Miss you all
Lots of Love
Sheree and Dave
