The last couple of days we've been really busy so sorry for not writing sooner! We spent our first day in Luang Prabang exploring the town. It's bordered on one side by the mekong river and on another by the nam kan river creating some lovely walks with spectacular views! The towns not that big and very easy to get about so it's great for just going for a wonder. There is also a night market with a great food alley where you can get a bowl full of anything and everything you want for just over a £1! On Monday we decided to head to Kung Si waterfall with people from the boat and also some guys from the hostel. We spent a good 3 hours swimming in the water with everyone despite the water being freezing! We all went for some drinks that night at a very chilled bar called upotia which had a deck overlooking the water and even a volley ball court!
Tuesday we booked to go kayaking with a few of the people from the day before (Steve, Andy, Sarah, Melanie and Jonas) but started the day off at Tad Se waterfall and got to swim with elephants which was quite a surreal experience. We then kayaked for 3 hours down the nam kan river back towards Luang Prabang, stopping occasionally for a swim or a water fight. The last section of the trip involved kayaking down some rapids which turned more into a float down the rapids as 5 of the 7 of us capsized! We all have some good scrapes and bruises to talk about!
All the bars in Luang Prabang close at 11.30 except for a bowling alley on the outskirts of town so when the bars close, everyone heads there. After watching a very weird fashion show at one bar and a bit of pool and volleyball we headed to the bowling alley. It is a very weird experience as everyone bowling is steaming drunk and the drinks are so cheap they just keep flowing. It's just under £5 for a 1.5 litre bottle of Pepsi and a WHOLE BOTTLE of whiskey so between a few of you it's insanely cheap.
Today as you would expect was a rather slow start. We all headed to get breakfast and then after the girls got a pedicure we retired to upotia, sleeping on the mats in the shade enjoying some refreshing drinks.
Tomorrow we leave for Vang Vieng, a small town down south on the river which is famous for it's tubing!
