900km, brutal! We drove the whole Gulf of Sirt today and it was just a pretty long drive day. I've had interesting drive days before, but that was on the truck with a bunch of fun people, it's a little different now.
We left early, well early for this tour, 7:30am has become early. We had a few stops along the way and stopped for lunch for about 45 minutes. It was a scorching hot day and during one of the stops our tour leader said to me, "Is Australia this hot?" I told him it got this hot in summer, he laughed to himself and said, "I thought it was only us that lived in hell."
We did have one stop, it was basically just a vacant lot with two giant bronze statues of the Philini brothers who were of Phoenician origin. The statues weren't ancient, but still pretty impressive. There was also a small museum with a few ancient coins in it, which I enjoyed. We reached the small town of Zliten at 7pm, with virtually nothing to do, I stayed in my room exhausted, watching TV for the rest of the night.
