8am departure. First stop Pont du Gard, an aqueduct built in 1 A.D. It was a big bridge-like structure with archways built without any mortar keeping the stone blocks together.
Low and behold. Our first WTF moment of the day came right after leaving Pont du Gard. As we we getting onto the highway, there were 2 signs to the A9 highway, going in opposite directions of course. Dave took the turn pointing towards Lyon (ie northbound). We are meant to be heading south towards Montpellier/Toulouse. {major WTF moment #1}.
Luke immediately told Dave the other Topdeck coach went the other way. The douchebag simpleton that Dave is was adamant it was the correct route, reason being that it had A9 on it. Frikin hell. A highway goes both directions. How could Dave have been a driver for >20 years??!
5 mins down the road Dave realises something is wrong then goes on to say "oh, only one of them signs had A9 on it"; "my head is in 2 minds atm as I got a call last night..."
We could tell Luke was getting pissed at this stage as Dave made it seem like it was Luke's fault. Then Luke started downing chips (prob to keep his anger down?). poor luke. Such a nice friendly giant getting bullied by the biggest dickhead ever. To add to Dave's w***erness, a girl asked for the AC to be turned down. Dave said in his crass British accent: "Nah, it's 23 degrees, its warm enough". No change in temperature. {WTF moment #2}.
We are now 40 mins behind after finally finding a place to do a u-turn. There hasn't been a day on this tour where everything has been all smooth sailing.
We arrive into Barcelona at 3:30. woot!! First up is a driving tour of the city ( which was meant to take 45 mins but in fact took 2 hours (with no traffic). Went to a viewpoint up on a hill overlooking the Barcelona city and the port (one of the largest in Europe).
We finally checked in to the Centric Point Hostel at 6 (again, like 1.5 hrs behind the other tour group as we got lost AGAIN driving to the hostel. We freshened up an left at 7 to go to dinner in La Rambla - "Micky's" for seafood paella. Food and sangria was so-so...then it was a flamenco show at 9:30. To be honest I started falling asleep during the show (maybe it was the lighting?)..but the dancing and stamping of the feet was incredible! After some more (not-so-nice) tapas with John and Vivian and co. We went for a drink in the bar next door where most of the ppl from the 2 tour groups were. The Spaniards literally fill up half the glass with spirit! Hectic!
We saw like dancing as the other girls were dragging him onto the dance floor. He looked awkward. Mostly the girls were extremely trashy and slutty tho.
Luke also received a rose from a girl called Ashley in the other tour group. The cute thing was he kept holding onto it most of the night, putting it in awkward positions (such as his pocket to which Andie said "that looks so wrong from the side"). Haha so goofy.
