Goodbye Novalja, Pag Island, Croatia!! 7am departure to make the 8am ferry back to the Croatian mainland. Luke made a bimbo comment when he bought he ferry tickets at the port... when the guy asked him how big the coach was, Luke replied: "I dunno, it's Big!" LOL!! such a cutie.
Making our way first to the Postojnska Caves (the largest underground cave system in Europe). Decided not to go on the underground tour (for €22)
Then we made our way to Ljubljana, Slovenia! Heard so many things about how beautiful this place is. After checking into the Laguna Ljubljana Camping grounds (which seemed more like a hotel than a camp cabin) we headed into the Ljubljana town centre for a quick walking tour with Luke.
My first impression of Ljubljana: crazily beautiful and CLEAN! you could tell that it's a newly built city with revamped buildings and roads (Slovenia gained independence 20 years ago yesterday on 24 June and is one of the richest eastern European countries, hence it joined the EU), it wasn't a big city, more like a big town, with quaint buildings and streets full of character and friendly, good-looking people! Also- everywhere is so clean!! there's something extremely charming about this place... I have fallen madly IN LOVE with this country. I didn't even want to really sleep while on the bus ride in Slovenija -- the landscape was just too beautiful! (I liked it even more than Switzerland). apparently 60% of Slovenija is made up of forests. Interesting fact: highest concentration of casinos in Europe with the largest casino in Europe. Known as the 'greenpeace' of Eastern Europe - very big on ecotourism and recycling and just over 2 million in population. The town of "Bovek" is known as the best place in Europe for extreme sports.
We had a marvelous dinner at "Pri Škofu" - a local restaurant with a seasonal menu. Had the veal medallions with proscuitto and asparagus. Very delicious!!
The dessert place we went to after was even better! It was called "Zvezda" and the chocolate cake and pear crostata was absolute heaven!! The gelato was frikin awesome too. Anjuli, myself, Andie and James were totally stoked with our meals tonight!
Slovenija is a place I'd definitely definitely return to to explore more of! If only we had more than 1 day here!
