DAY 22: 7:30am early departure his morning! Ugh so hard to wake up... First stop-- the WW2 concentration camp on Mauthausen, Austria. An estimated 150,000 people have been killed on these premises (Aushwitz in Poland had 1.1 million people exterminated), and only 50% of people who entered here survived. We watched a video that explained the history of this camp between 1939 to 1944 (on 5 May, this was one of the last Nazi concentration camps to be liberated). Walked around the main camp site and.. The freaky thing was there was a large flock of black birds circling over the camp area as we entered the gates... Went down the "stairs of death" -- the 200 odd steps where concentration camp workers were made to carry heavy rocks up and down the stairs everyday for construction projects.... Which led down into the valley where many prisoners were murdered.
The video and visiting the concentration camp was a harrowing and moving experience...
Then we were on the road headed to Prague!! Prague is a city that strikes you immediately as you enter it. History seeps through the streets and buildings as all the architecture from the centuries have been retained to this day. We checked into 'Plus Prague' Hostel at 5pm and had time to chillaxing before dinner at 7:30pm.
We caught a tram into the city centre for a walking tour of Praha city, going over the famous and extremely romantic Charles Bridge, The Jewish Ghetto, National Opera House, Old Town Square, Wenseslas Square... Prague was extremely.. romantically ..beautiful!
Of course we ended up at a basement bar at the end of the walking tour -- "Double Trouble". A free vodka shot for everyone kicked off the night.. Tried one of the most popular Czech beers- 'Pilsner Urquell' ... It was very very nice! Second stop: a 5-storey nightclub where each level plays a different style of music, apparently the largest club in Europe. I particularly enjoyed the level playing oldies music... What we witnessed tonight was a complete shocker!! One moment we were dancing... The next, we saw Luke fully MAKING OUT with a short, chubby, kinda ugly Mexican girl (we think she's from the other Topdeck tour). Cos he was so tall... He was in an awkward kinda squatting position when he bent down to pash her (he looked like a frog doing that). At one stage, he put her up on the window sill and was fully groping her everywhere. HAHA. it was kinda gross actually, and I was thinking he had very unique taste in girls. James was so hilarious again tonight, he was more into spying on Luke than we were, pretending to dance around (he doesn't dance) to get a better view. Andie was absolutely disgusted at what she saw. After Luke's mishandling of the rooming arrangements (where he gave priority to the couples to room together that resulted in James having to bunk with Caitlyn, Alex and Hollie) and tonight's disturbing pash fest... Luke no longer seemed like a 'Perfect Roman God'.
It was a great night out overall and James was quite s***faced as we left the nightclub at 2:30... Making comments about the 'stupid seagulls'... Luke's poor taste in chicks and how he'd be better off sleeping with himself rather than her...nearly not making it up the stairs of the hostel...awesome night in Pretty Praha!!!!!
