Today was the last day in Saigon and its been two days since my last post, yesterday we spent the day in Saigon I had a whole bunch of clothes that I didn't need any more and I wasn't planning on taking all the cloths back with me, so the hotel receptionist helped me find a orphanage nearby and, we went into the market and I bought some hair clips for the girls in the orphanage and then I found a place that sold baby cloths and I was speaking with the owner and she understood that the cloths were for orphans so I bought a big bag I kids cloths and then the shop owner donated another full bag of cloths for the kids, I was amazed to see her generosity I said thankyou and went and bought a bunch of colour pens and pencils and then we got a cab to the orphanage, we got there and meet the director, the orphanage had about 300 kids and they were all young kids but we didn't get to see them because they were all sleeping it was their afternoon nap so we dropped the things off with the director and he was grateful for receiving the things donated and we then walked back into town, im not sure how but on the way back to the centre we ended up in the Saigon Zoo, so we wondered around the zoo for a few hours and there were loads of animals and it was like a zoo slash theme park, we eventually got out and then there were a few museums that were of interest, so we walked to the place where Vietnam won in independence the Reunification Palace, we got in and then went on a tour of the palace, it wasn't all that interesting, its more of a parliament house than a palace so we went and saw some rooms and they all had different colours of carpet and the guide would explain what the colour of carpet represents and after 2 room of a 100 room building we had enough and just walked off, I knew of a war museum a few blocks away so we walked to that museum, and I don't know much about what happened during the war but I was shocked by the things I saw and the stories I read, the museum was spread over 4 levels, it was mostly a collection of photographs taken during the war and the images were really graphic I was horrified of the terrible crimes committed by the Americans on the people of Vietnam, it was really confronting and the book im reading is called the sorrow of war and after going to the museum im beginning to understand more of what the book is about, well that's about all we did yesterday.
Today we had organised to go on a one day tour of some temple and the Cu Chi tunnels, we got out of the hotel at 7am and last night I had to use my ear pulgs I think we have a really big rat in the roof abouve our room and it was making noise all night but I put my ear plugs in a nd problem sloved, we spend most of the day today in a bus, we got to some temple that is famous because it's a new and growing religion in Vietnam its a mix of Buddisum, Confusanium, Hinduisum, and I was a pretty interesting sight everyone was dressed in white and all they really did was pray, I wasn't really interested in visiting the temple but it was pretty interesting seeing the people, we went and had lunch and then afew hours later we were at the Cu Chi Tunnels this were a series of tunnels used by the Viet Knog during the war as a network of underground tunnels the hide from the Americans and surprise attack the enemy, the tunnel system is 240km long and we went threw some of the tunnels the tunnels are just small enough to crawl threw and when we got the the end there was a shooting range, we got 10 bullets to shot a AK47 I shot 5 and Daniel shot 5 and then Daniel bought 20 bullets for a machine gun we left the tunnels and headed back into Saigon we got back around 7pm and we just had diner and we got to get our stuff packed because tomorrow we leave for a three day tour of the Mekong delta and were going to cross the border into Cambodia in the next 3 days so its going to be a very busy next two weeks till we get to Phuket.
