Just to let you know, this is goling to be a very long blog...
Fraser Island was amazing and so far the best experience of my trip, the group i was in were great, the food we had was brilliant, the adventures we had were amusing and, most importantly, the island was beautiful.
Day 0 - Had a group meeting at 4pm to plan our route and choose what food to buy for the next few days, this was also the first opportunity to see who was in the group. We had; 3 Slovienians, 2 Danish, 1 Swiss, 1 English, 2 South Koreans, 1 American and 1 scot in our group and it proved to be a good mix (only a few problems). At the end of the day we spent $225 on food for the next few days and were going to eat very well.
Day 1 - Got onto Fraser Island via ferry and set off down the sand tracks, had a quick lunch and set off to Lake McKenzie for a swim. I have to say that Lake McKenzie is one of the most beatuiful places i have ever been with blue waters and white beaches, the best thing was that you could drink straight out of the lake because the water was so pure. The only down side to the stop was i got BADLY burnt on my back and chest. We then drove up the beach, which (even in the back of the car) was great fun, to have a look at the Mahino shipwreck and then on to the camp site. For dinner we had a feast of sausages, potatoes, bread and steaks. Probably the the best meal iv had for a while. After dinner we went down to the beach with our boxed wine (goon) and relaxed there untill 3am, will remember that night for a long time to comeas it was great looking at thousands of stars, on the beach, slightly merry and listening to Ramon play the guitar.
Day 2 - After a rubbish nights sleep in the tents and with a sore head we piled into the 4x4 and went to visit the north of the island. We stopped at Indian Head for a great view from the top of the rocks, then had a small drive and long walk to the Champagne pools. They're rock pools that waves crash over the top and create a champagne effect. Only problem was that on the way back the sand was roasting and so me and Kristian had to share a pair of flip flops and hop for about 2km. The last stop before camp was Eli Creek where we drifted down the steam and filled our water bottles. We arrived where we were sleeping at about 3pm which was an aboriginal site, we dumped our kit and went for a quick swim with the turtles up in Lake Allum. Had a good night there but it was raining very heavily, still it didnt stop us from ahving a great meal of pasta bolangnase with cheese toaties and salad. Before we went to sleep we all had a go on the didgeridoos, had a chat with the aboriganies and played a big game of poker. We were all thankful for the roof over our heads that night.
Day 3 - Waking early for a big breakfast we set off to Lake Wobbie for a swim with the Catfish, bit of a walk to get there but it was well worth it as the spdes of the lake were really steep so they were great to jump off. Spent a while there swimming around before heading off to get a meat pie for luch at the only bakery on the island. Before the ferry we got to have one last swim in Lake McKenzie (where one of the South Kerean blokes almost drowned). The only thing left to was get the sad ferry back to the mainland and write up my experience on this website.
Will probably head to Noosa tomorrow but havent booked anything yet, all i know is that i really enjoyed Fraser Island and plan to come back when im 21 so i can drive on the island.
