Hejsan,
We arrived in Mexico 2 weeks ago. We realised quite quickly that Mexico is much bigger then we first thought. We had a quick look at Mexico City and took one of many long busses down to Oaxaca. We were lucky enough to be here in the week leading to the Independance Day celeberation. That happend in 1810!. There were parades and music in the main square.
Next day we thought we'd take a short buss ride down to the coast. Turned out beeing a 14h journey throught the night. We found a great beach town called Puerto Escondido, stunning beach, lots of surfers, very hot! unfortunately in our wisdom we booked in on a hostel called "Tower Bridge".We should have known better! Picture if you can a middle-aged, Cornish, ex-army, complete nutcase as the owner. He had a huge scar running across his head....we thought maybe he donated is brain to charity.
This odd little town had great souvenier shops aswell. The best piece we found was a small china frog holding a football, obviously celebrating last years Worldcup. BUT since it is now 2007 , they had scratched of the 6 and penned in the number 7 instead. Very classy indeed.
Stopped in a few Colonial towns. Went by boat through a Canyon (Surmidero), great day trip. We ve seen a few waterfalls and our first Mayan site, Palanque in the middle of the jungle.
CANCUN what can we say. Decided to have a 2 nights luxury break. We went All-inclusive with all the britts and americans.Unfortunately it rained so hard for our entire stay that our room flooded three times, water started to pour through the light in our bathroom and in through the balcony, we both experienced a bad case off stomach flu!!! The only saving grace was that we had decent TV and ESPN so Phil could watch England play Samoa!
We will post new pics soon! We headed inland again to try and avoid the rain.
Hasta Luego Amigos
