Hola Amigos!
My spanish is getting better and better. It`s very handy as i the next few countires they won`t speak much english.
We had a look at Chichen Itza, mayan site and one of the 7 wonders of the world. It was quite impressive, but they have ropes in front of the pyramids so you can`t climb the or walk around freely. Which is a great shame. We heard a tourist feel from the pyramid and died....so that might have had something to do with it. There are 91 steps on each side and one on the top...adding up to 365 steps as the days in a year!
The last few days we just been chilling in Tulum at a great hostel, close to the beach. We are off on a snorkling trip later today.
Tomorrow the missioning start again, we are heading by bus and boat to the cays in Belize.
MEXICO:
Favorite mayan site: Palenque! with out a doubt. Smack bang in the jungle and you can climb the whole site.
Favorite beach:Puerto Escondido! Hidden port. On the pacific coast.
Favorite hostel: Posada Mexico in Merida! Clean kitchen, room and not too many bugs
Biggest surprise: The weather. Changing from winterjacket and fleece to bekini after a 45min busride. Let's just say on one of our daytrips, we took off from the hostel in goretex jacket and fleece and when we got out of the bus it was 40 degrees and everyone else was in boardies and bekinis.
Best mad american tourist comment: Buying some crap sovunier at Chichen Itza. He asks the person selling in a very broad american accent: ARE YOU MAYAN? ha ha ha. The mexican answer ofcourse I am. Anything if he gets his things sold.
Hasta Luego
Sofia and Phil
