Hello all,
I thought it was time I let you know what I am up to out here. I got to Vang Vieng at about 6 pm on the 5th June. I checked into a nice little hostel and waited to see if I could catch a glimpse of Morgan or Monkey. I went for a walk around the town but it isn't much to look at so I headed back to my hostel. As I relaxed by the side of the road I heard a noise that could only be one person. I looked up and stumbling around in the middle of the road was Andrew Morgan. There was an emotional embrace and a big kiss and we were reunited.
But where is Monkey I hear you ask? In bed ill.
However he recovered quickly and soon we were all together and itching to have some fun. Vang Vieng is famous for one thing, tubing. For those who don't know Vang Vieng lies on the Nam Song river and this particular stretch of river is lined with bars. The idea is that you jump on a tube, float down the river, and get pulled into a bar where they serve up buckets of Lao Whiskey and you get to go on very high rope swings that land you in the middle of the river. It is a lot of fun but it comes at a price: Pink Eye.
Pink eye has ravaged us all, it is two days of agony, eyes watering, gunk clogging up your eyes so you can't see and a burning sensation under your eyelids. I got pink eye on my third day here, but I am now on my second stint of it, it has redeveloped since last night.
Other than this affliction everything has been dandy, Morgan and Monks have introduced me to their two Canadian friends, Cal and Ty, and we are all going to head to Luang Prabang in a day or so and then from there to Chiang Mai. I am quite looking forward to leaving Vang Vieng now, it's a lot of fun but pink eye and hundreds of drunk Brits has taken it's toll. Time to get some culture.
