We had a full day planned today, so got up and out of the hotel relatively early. Fortunately, that meant it wasn't quite so hot as we began our walk through the city. We grabbed breakfast at a small sidewalk cafe and then were off to the Uffizi Gallery. With our Firenze Pass we got to skip the line (can't recommend this enough!) and soon we were inside looking at a massive collection of ancient Roman sculptures and Renaissance art in a museum first started by the Medici family. The sculptures were our favorite - but there was so much to see it all began to run together after a while!
After Uffizi, we crossed the river to Boboli Gardens, which were much calmer and less crowded than other attractions in the city. Again, there were too many statues and sculptures to count, so we just enjoyed wandering through the paths and taking in the scenery.
We spent some time perusing the shops on our way back up to the hotel (Arin got a very fun skirt), and then grabbed lunch on the run as we hustled to catch our 2:00 tour to the Chianti region. Our driver, Enzo, first took us to Castellina in Chianti, where we checked out some smaller shops and (of course) got some gelato. Then we stopped at the medieval fortress of Monteriggioni, which offered beatiful views of the valley below. Finally, we made it to Sant'Appiano winery for a tour and tasting - and we picked up a bottle of wine to enjoy tonight!
Tomorrow is our last full day in Italy - we're sad it's coming to an end, but excited to come back home!
