A long travel day today. We had another wonderful breakfast in the garden, but then it was time to leave Cinque Terre and head to Florence. We took the train through Pisa to Firenze Santa Maria Novella railway station in Florence (Firenze = Florence in Italian). Fortunately, our hotel was just a short tram ride away, but it took us a little while to get situated and checked in.
Since we didn't leave Cinque Terre until late morning and the trip took a few hours, it was getting late by the time we started exploring Firenze. We decided to pick up a pass that allowed us access to our choice of the city's museums, as well as rides on public transportation. Our first stop was the Galleria dell'Accademia, which houses Michelangelo's famous statue of David. We were both surprised at how big and imposing the statue was, and were impressed by the smaller details like the veins in his arms and neck. It was very cool!
Exhausted from the long day, we wandered through some of the stands set up by street vendors (Arin is quite the negotiator) while eating gelato before calling it a night and heading back to the hotel.
