Pete and Louise's Great Adventure
hello all,
we've just spent our first 36 hours in Singapore and we have spent most of them asleep!
were sorry to say pete's normally iron stomach was weakened by the 13 hour/small life time flight, time difference and the four day period of no sleep and so all he could do as soon as we reached the hostel was to collapse on the bunk.
we managed to go for a walk in the evening, hoping to catch a bite to eat, but all that the restauranteurs had been catching for us to eat were frogs and fish heads, so we thought we'd give them a miss. fish head soup anyone?
Anyway, things are now looking up and after a very long stint in bed last night/this morning, we felt up to exploring the city (which fortunately has a more varied cusine than the area we are staying in!). We've seen various beautiful temples, done a lots of window shopping and wandered around the bazzars on the streets of Little India/the various air-conditioned malls (for some much needed relief!) We're still not up for the fish head soup, so we buckled under the pressure and had fish&chips for lunch and pete had mcdonalds for tea. Despite travelling 11,000km on the plane to experience the cuisine, we just couldn't do it today and it probably was the best BIg Mac I've ever had so no regrets.
The highlight of the day was the balloon ride! In the middle of a small piece of grass was a huge hot air balloon (sponsored by the delivery company DHL, interestingly enough as I had hoped to have heard the last of that company...) which takes you 150 metres in the air for the best ten minute view of the city. It was pretty damn amazing, but pretty damn windy and rocky too! Well worth it.
Managed to make it back again on the bus, on which they have TV so we're all up to date on Lost for the week. Now we're typing this and chilling in the hostel common room (before heading back up to our 16 bedded mixed dorm where Louise is one of 2 girls & there is only 1 toilet!)
Up date you soon
