Not a big day today, only 300km to Airlie Beach, but we were still up early and away by 8. There's not alot to tell you about really. The weather is still brilliant, and is meant to stay that way until the weekend. The trip down the highway was totally uneventful, and quite boring. I'm still frustrated with the number of caravans that bog the highways down by travelling at 80 - 85kph, and don't pull over to let traffic through. It's really inconsiderate, and not everyone is on the road on holidays. The truckies must hate it, as it's difficult for them to get past on single lane highways, and they have deadlines... Do the police book people for travelling too slow? It's probably not a stance I should be taking in our line of business, but when you get stuck behind one, and can't just fly by easily, it gets me really angry to be held up by them! Occasionally, the back of the caravan will have the persons names and the UHF cannel they're on, and it's really tempting to get on and tell them to pull over and let everyone through, and to have a go at them for being so bloody selfish, but then I remember I've got a big sticker on the back of our van with our business and phone number plastered all over it, and it's possibly not the best idea... We got stuck in a line of traffic behind another caravan today, and it went on for ages, and the guy just would not pull over... *!#?!*#!... Chill pill time...
We stopped in Bowen for a morning tea break, but got underway again before Jo was able to start with the stories about the 'old days', and when she was growing up... Blah, blah, blah... (Bowen was her home town through primary school, and before you all start crucifying me, we're going back there to reminisce while we're here... yay!!) We arrived in Airlie around lunch time, and set up pretty quickly, and headed into town for something to eat. The man made swimming lagoon in the middle of town was an instant attraction, and somewhere we'll definitely be coming back to. The boys didn't want to leave, even for food. We just managed to avoid a parking ticket, by leaving while the ranger was writing a ticket for the car in front of us, and came back to the park for a 'nothing' afternoon. We spent it chasing the sun around the pool area, and having a walk around the park...
BIG4 Adventure Whitsunday is a beautiful park. It has lovely lush gardens, immaculate grounds and all the facilities you could wish for. It's not 'over the top' perfect like Cairns Coconut, but it's a really well looked after and presented park. It's the sort of park Jo and I look at and say "this is what we want to look like". Cairns is beyond reach, a pipe dream, and we know that. But doing what they've done here is possible at home. It's what we could reach for, and reasonably expect to be able to achieve. Photos, that's what we need, lots of photos... Oh, and money... lots of money...
