It's been another couple of beaut days we've just had...
Not much happened yesterday, which is why I've combined it with today again. We packed up and departed the Sunshine Coast, and three hours later, we arrived at BIG4 Billabong Holiday Park in Tweed Heads. We went and did some essential shopping, some even more essential washing, and took a drive around Tweed Heads and Cooloongatta. They're both lovely places, and very busy in the middle of Queensland and NSW school holidays. The park is lovely, but it's right on the edge of the freeway, and directly under the flight path of Gold Coast airport, and I'm not sure how much that's going to interfere with our sleeping...
Today has been a fantastic day!! The sun was up before we were, so obviously neither the freeway or the airport interfered too much with us being able to get some sleep. We drove up to the Le Mans Go Kart track after breakfast, and had some great fun on the track. Jeremy qualified for the right to drive a restricted superkart (normally reserved for 14 year olds), and was thrilled at being able to drive a much faster kart. Dylan was my co-pilot in a dual kart, and we blasted the lap record by one tenth of a second, but it took us 9 out of ten laps to do it. We kept getting closer and closer, as the tyres warmed up, but I was afraid we'd run out of laps before we got there. Lap 9, it all came together, and the record was ours, and got us a round of applause from the staff there. Dylan has claimed all the credit, of course...
We were at the karts for less than an hour though, so we decided to see if Dreamworld had one of those special deals where you could go for one day, and visit the next day for $10, or something similar. It turns out that if you book tickets online, you can get a 21 day pass, at both Dreamworld and Whitewater World for $90 (adult) compared to a single day Dreamworld only pass for $80 (adult). So we stood outside the gates and booked tickets through our iphone, then entered the building where they printed them out for us. We've now got tickets for the next three days we're here, and hopefully, the weather will hold out long enough for us to be able to use them each day. We spent the rest of the day at Dreamworld, fitting in as much as we can, but it's school holidays, and the queues are long. Dreamworld has changed alot since we last visited about three or four years ago. There's heaps more rides, and the village common areas have been renovated and altered too. Today we managed to get on the River Rapids Ride, Mick Doohan Moto Extreme Roller Coaster, Escape to Madagascar Roller Coaster, Dodgem Cars (again), Wipeout, Shockwave and Cyclone Roller Coaster. There are heaps more rides still to do, and we haven't even seen half of the world yet, we're going to need three days to do it all I reckon... Jo came on the River Rapids Ride, and got soaking wet, and that was the end of it for her. Everything else was too wild or too scarey, so she became the backpack lady again. Dylan persevered, and accomplished quite a few of the bigger rides, but backed out of the Wipeout and the Cyclone Roller Coaster. I've convinced him he'll be fine on the Cyclone tomorrow, and once he's done that, some of the others should be easier for him. Jeremy will do any of them, just put him in line, and away we go. We're going to tackle the Buzzsaw (new), and the Claw (old) tomorrow, because they're two of the big rides that come with bragging rights at school, but I've got some talking to do if I'm going to convince him to do the Tower of Terror and the Giant Drop with me. He's already talked himself out of those, just from watching them in action today. The old favourites, like the steam train and the paddleboat and the vintage cars are all still there, but I'm not sure they'll be on our list, I think those days are behind us, in favour of the adrenalin pumping, thrill seeking rides. Either way, it's a fantastic way to spend some family time, where everyone enjoys it, and we all smile all day. As long as the sun stays out, we'll be happy.
Tomorrow... Tomorrow is an important day... A very important day... Tomorrow is a holy day, and the most special holy day in the holy calendar... Why?... Why? I hear you ask... If you need to ask, then you don't deserve an answer now! You'll just have to wait to find out...
