I got the bus in the evening with Vic and Einar, which was to last 12 hours until we arrived in Nha Trang. I actually caught some sleep and was only awoken for the odd toilet stop and hijacker. Oh yeah, some guy tried to hijack our bus when we stopped but our driver was alert enough to block the doorway, fight him and push him off the bus.
We arrived in Nha Trang at about 6am, and following our 'hard-ball' negotiating skills, we managed to haggle down the price of our guest house from $10 to $9 for one room, for the three of us. We slept for several hours more in our room, then went to check out the town.
Nha Trang is a beautiful beach side town. Vietnam is working hard to promote tourism and in many ways it is working but they are still failing on many counts. The main annoyance for me is the motorbike 'taxis', constantly trying to rip you off and they all have the same lines: "You want moto / marajuana / women (of the night)?". It usually takes three "No thanks you's" before they leave.
After strolling through town for a while, Einar saw a shop that offered a proper shave, so we tried it. I've never had a shave in a shop before but it was great and it only cost $1. After, we tried a few different types of coffee in a nice cafe, to end a very relaxing afternoon.
Later that evening, we teamed up with Vic and went to a cheap restaurant that was recommended in the Lonely Planet guide. On a hot grill, we barbecued our own chicken and squid, a bit of a novelty, so it was quite fun.
The next day was our eagerly awaited booze cruise. We met up again with the girls from Chiang Mai, stocked up on whisky, Red Bull and Coke, and set off. The on-board entertainment was basic, the music band consisting of the two guides, the chef and the captain. The chef was on drums, still wearing his pink apron and some kind of party hat. His drum kit consisted of two old plastic barrels and one made from rusted tin. With the assistance of the captain on guitar, the ensemble worked bizarrely well. Although, after a few songs in several languages, we'd all had enough.
Now it was time to have a bit of a swim by the floating bar. After jumping off the top deck, we had a couple of drinks in the water and I used the yet untested underwater feature of my camera. Although my underwater photography skills need improving, the camera worked fine.
Following a short stop to a nearby beach to do some para-sailing, the flotilla of booze ships sailed on to the aquarium, situated in a moored pirate ship. There were lots of eels, small sharks and lots of other things I'm sure I don't know the names of.
On returning home and applying some much needed after-sun lotion, we headed out for the evening for pool, drinks and dancing.
