Well, Ive finally brought myself up to date with my diaries and am due to leave Rio this afternoon for home.
Its difficult to describe the last six months in a few words in this last postcard from South America. I can say this though: South America is awesome. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone, or indeed, the other places I have been in South East Asia.
The continent is full of wonders that will be different for each person. During my travels, Ive met some great people, with whom I want to stay in touch, and seen some places that will stay in my memory forever.
The entire trip has challenged me in ways I never expected it to. Many people travel to find themselves, and although at first I found this a bit of a clichyou cant help but see yourself for who you are, your failings and also your better parts. Whether emotionally, financially, logistically or even romantically, its a long rollercoaster of a ride which is over all too quickly.
When I return to the UK, I certainly want to continue to learn and improve my Spanish. I would also like to return to the continent at some point, but I suppose that is too far into the future for me to consider. When I return to the UK, I need to find a job and settle back into life in England again.
One thing Im sure of though, I wont be settling in as the person I was before travelling. Not that Ive changed dramatically, or even much, simply that I see the world and people slightly differently now.
Its been a fun, crazy, sometimes hectic, relaxed, fulfilling time but above all, its been worth it.
