It is surprising how quiet Paris roads are on a Sunday. Even when I was here in the 90's this was the case.
We are having coffee with Kate Bates.
She has given us some good insights to the race.
We were talking about riders that had impressed us. She is a strong supporter of the future of Peter Sagan - young sprinter who is strong in the mountains as evidenced by the support he has given Nibali.
I mentioned Chris Anker Sorensen of Saxo who impressed me with his determination in the mountains. He would not give up. She explained that about 3 days ago he had badly damaged his left hand removing plastic from his front wheel, lost a lot of blood, stayed with the peleton, had 6 hours of microsurgery that night, slept on the bus until 5 minutes before the start on the next day and then rode the stage. Keep in mind that he would only be allowed very mild pain killers due to drug restrictions. His team is staying in our hotel. Am going to try and track him down,
Jonathan Cantwell is riding with a broken or fractured tibia. He cannot walk but can ride and should finish his first tour today.
Have some other good gossip but not such that I can put it on a public forum.
