Am at the Avignon TGV Station to pick up Carol returning from Paris.
The photo is of the car we technically bought and will sell when we leave. That is apparently the way you hire a car here.
It had only done 8K when we picked it up.
Whilst we ordered roof racks for the bikes it is unlikely we will need them as there is a lot of room in the back with the back seats down. Both bikes fit in comfortably.
It is a Peugeot diesel. The diesel is very economical but not quick off the mark.
We have GPS which is a godsend for getting around, though we have found that it is out of date around new developments. On the way here it told we to take the 1st exit at a round about into a new estate. It should have said 2nd exit.
Have only driven on wrong side of road once and then only briefly.
Have driven through a red light at my navigator's instruction.
The roads are exceptionally narrow. Just enough room for 2 cars. The French drivers are used to it and do not slow down. If we leave here with our drivers side mirror intact it will be a miracle. If you pull over to give them room on the very narrow roads they just arrogantly drive past without any acknowledgement.
The French just park anywhere and do not worry if they protrude onto the road.
They are very courteous to cyclists. You feel very safe from cars on these roads.
