Hello everyone!
We managed to get to Cajarmarca safely after two days travelling. It is truely beautiful here in the foothills of the Andes. The city is completly different to any English city but we have managed to settle in fine.
So far we have had a few welcoming meetings where we have found out what we are going to be doing in the next four months. We have also had to go to many spanish services. So far they have all lasted two hours. It is tough because we only have one Spanish speaker in the group (Sarah) but she has been amazing with her translating. We have started Spanish lessons and take our spanish phrase books everywhere we go so hopefully we will learn fast.
The next two months are really busy for us because we have to learn five dances to put on a show for lots of kids where we then hand out boxes full of toys and fun things forchildren which have come from the wealthier parts of the world. As well as that we have to put on a service every friday which is harder than it sounds because we have to translate the sermon, prayers and songs! On top of that we have chosen an area to work with for the next two months. Our choice was to work with women, children or in the agricultural side.
We have already done two days in the country side digging up potatoes which is actually really fun but hard work. We get around in a hilux truck and we get to sit in the back which is really fun but can be a bit miserable when it rains and on long journies to the countryside. There seems to be no rules on the driving here and people just pull out whenever they want and always beep their horns.
We hope you are all well and you will be glad to hear that none of us have been majorly sick yet. Ruth did have a funny tummy for a day but she is sorted now.
Lots of love
The Peru Team
