Penny's Big Adventure
Hi everyone,
Queenstown has just the right balance of people, activities, scenery and excitement needed to have a good time. I elected to stay on here for an extra two days because I just didn't want to leave.
The Wakatipu basin is just a fantastic array of mountains surrounding a huge lake. Queenstown's population of around seven thousand is a shock compared to a few of the places I have visited so far (again Barrytown springs to mind). I've taken a bunch of photos for you to have a look at, they're sorted into the Queenstown album.
Yesterday was a really fun day. Woke up early to go to a nearby school field to watch a friend paraglide into. Then we had a leisurely walk around the town before going our separate ways in the afternoon. I decided to go up the gondolas to the top of a mountain and take a few scenic shots. However when I got up there, I saw the luge track and decided this looked like a lot of fun. After a lot of to-ing and fro-ing, a bunch of us got together and decided to race down this track, which is literally a few metres from the edge of the mountain. I had so much fun and I screamed more than I have done in years. I think I was most scared of the chairlifts from the bottom to the top of the luge track.
Anyway, we then had a beer and watched the sunset, which was gorgeous but my camera was playing up and I don't think the pics are very good. I went out with a bunch of people last night for drinks (it was pigtails night for us girls) and got back to the hostel at about 5am today, so I'm tired and need an early night because tomorrow morning's pickup is at 7am. Going to Te Anau and Milford Sound for the next two days, then I think it's down to Invercargill. I have no idea really, I just rely on the bus to take me there!
Hope you're all well and not working too hard?
