Penny's Big Adventure
Hey everyone, I hope you're all well and happy.
I have so much to tell you, I'm sure I'll miss some stuff out. But here goes...
Milford Sound was absolutely stunning, we got soaked on the boat but the views were cool. I have loads of photos, but none really do it justice I'm afraid.
Went to Stewart Island for 2 nights and the first full day, I walked round and got my bearings around the place. There are only 380 people on the whole island and only 15% of it has actual roads on it, the rest is National Park and would take weeks to walk across. Anyway, on one of the walks at Evening Cove, the terrain was particularly muddy and two of us decided to try and walk round it because there was a beautiful bay behind all the trees. At one point I turned round to see the girl I was with almost running towards me (she'd lost her footing) and I had to grab her before she fell off the edge and landed in some nasty looking trees. Thenl we got about half way and I decided to see if I could take a short-cut down the bank. I edged slowly and held onto a nearby tree for support. Suddenly I slipped and found myself doing a tarzan impression hanging off this tree. It took all my strength to heave myself back onto semi-solid ground. I've been laughing about those two events for two days.
Later on that day, I managed to crash the hire car and cause myself some considerable debt on the credit card. So basically, I'm now broke!!! Well almost...
On the up side, went to the pub last night and the local policeman (cutie) asked me to marry him. Naturally I accepted and we're now looking for venues. There's a picture of him proposing on the website and the way I see it, if I can look THAT BAD and he still thinks I'm good enough to marry - he's a keeper!!!
Got the ferry from Stewart Island back to Invercargill this morning. Martine - you would have been so proud of me. This ferry trip was ten times worse than the Whitsundays and I managed to keep my composure. Apparently that stretch of water is the most treacherous in the world. Thee even sell t-shirts with "I survived the foveaux strait" on them!! No I didn't buy one before anyone asks...
Just got evacuated from the hostel 'cos a guy was cooking sausages and set off the fire alarm. Fire brigade is here at the moment, photo also on the website.
Still having lots and lots of fun (as you can probably tell from the pics) but gutted you guys can't be here with me to enjoy it too. I want a corrie update Ralph! And an Enders update Jak!
Lots of Love
Penny x
