So after our epic 3 days in the jungle with a bag of wet smelly clothes and feeling sick of eating noodles and rice . we decided to treat ourselves to a mackky d's… which went down an absolute treat !!!! we then took to the town for our last night in Chiang Mai , hitting it very hard on the beer and buckets. We ended up in a place called zoey in yellow which was full of backpackers. which we were glad about as we hadn't really seen anyone else other that Thai people.
After we set off on our long painful journey (with the mother of all hangovers ) to Vang Vieng (Laos) for a weeks tubing..
The journey took about 4 days and we started with a 4 hour journey to the Laos border where we stayed in a small village that was still stuck in the stone ages ! ( apparently they had only just got electricity and the village was run on a generator ) apart from getting a very dodgy haircut and meeting a good group of lads nothing interesting really happened.
We then set off on our first part of the slow boat trip down to Laos which was a good crack as we met loads of people and the scenery through the mountains along the river was amazing however it did drag after about 2 hours !
5 hours later we stopped at an even more secluded place .. I cant really call it a village as it was just a road with about 30 houses ( if that ) on it .. we ended up going to a bar ( the only bar at the place ) with some of the people who we me on the boat and had a good night even though the town has a curfew of 11 o'clock ! which I was not happy with !!
Day 2 on the slow boat was an absolute drag and I was so happy to finally reach Laung probang . Where we spent one night in a local bar which also had a 12 o'clock curfew !! and set off for another 8 hour bus journey ( which was not nice ) the roads aren't like back in England and I spent most the trip being thrown from one side of the bus to the other …
Finally in Vang vieng we got tubing which consists of a load of bars dotted along the river which you float with a tube (or swim like we did ) from bar to bar .. there where rope swings wires and a lot of drinking going on but after 4 days of non stop drinking we couldn't take any more so moved on to Hanoi in Vietnam which took 24 hours on a bus !!! However we did get our hands on some valium which knocked us out for 21 of the hours which I would defiantly recommend to anyone taking that route !!
