Hello again people! After a sixteen hour journey from hell on the Greyhound bus, I arrived at San Francisco! I had managed to book into a decent hostel called USa Hostels. It was quite a party hostel, and it had a beer store right across the road! So I knew I was gonna have a good time. I had planned to stay 5 nights in San Francisco, so unformtunatley I had to change hostels on the 4th and 5th night, to another one just a couple of blocks away; called Adalide Hostel. I had pre-booked tickets on the net for Alcatraz (as per some great advice from Cam & Mand), even then then though I had to take the Alcatraz and Angel Island tour, which was a little more expensive. This turned out to be quite cool, as Angel Island was pretty darn nice. Alcatraz was great, I took the audio tour which lasted about 40 minutes -and it was supurb, the best thing I've done yet. Then, I caught the boat to Angel Island, which is about 20 minutes by boat. Here, hired a bike and cycled the 5 mile parimiter road around the island. Great on the down hill bits, not so good on the up hill bits! I also saw Lombard Street (you know the bendy road), and some other bit and bobs. Another highlight for me (maybe not for everyone) was a trip to a world war 2 sub-marine, docked at pier 41 (i think). Being a mechanically minded sorta of fella, I really enjoyed this. There was even a guy that served on this sub, talking about what it was like to sail on during the war. On my final day, I was getting a little board, so I decided to hire a bike from the Hostel. Unortunately, all did not go to plan, as I locked the bike up at a Safeway. I went in toget a drink, and some how..........manged to loose the damn key. So, I ended up returing with just the wheels and the saddle! (Quite funny really) Needless to say they took my deposit! Had a good time in San Fran, but I was starting to get board of the cold weather! I could have been in England!........and no-one wants that !
