Once again, another gorgeous day and our last day in Vancouver. And again, breakfast up at Cloud 9. After breakfast we did the task of packing our bags again before checking out early at 9:30am. We stored our bags at the hotel while we ventured out for the day.
From our hotel on Robson Street we walked up as far as Granville Street where we found the Pacific Centre mall. We thought this would be a lot bigger and the shops were mainly high end fashion boutiques. We did find a Microsoft store and also an Apple Store, which Grant wandered around while I sat outside and waited. The noise in the Apple Store was amazing! You could hear it before you got there!
We found Tim Hortons and had a coffee along with their famous donuts! Mine a Maple one and Grant's a Boston Cream. Mmmmm!! We then looked at the map and found we weren't far from Canada Place and thought we might venture down there again and walk around the waterfront. We got down there and found you couldn't walk any further around the waterfront unless heading back to Stanley Park. So we ended up going to Gastown. Here the streets were pretty with handing flower baskets and lovely little shops, although every second shop seemed to be a gift shop! Here also in Gastown there is the famous steam clock. We were in time for the clock to 'chime' at midday and watched it and 'heard' it play a tune using steam. Amazing to think it runs on steam.
After this we decided to go down to the Seabus and catch this across the harbour to Lonsdale in North Vancouver. We purchased a day pass and walked down the overbridge to where you caught the Seabus. We journeyed on this for about 15 minutes across the harbour with great views. It was amazingly a smooth ride for being out in the harbour. Once we disembarked at Lonsdale Quay, we went around the market there. It was just like the public market on Granville Island, but on a smaller scale. We had a 'chilled chocolate' drink to cool us off, as it was now 30 degrees! We hopped back on the ferry and back to the other side again, where our ferry had to venture around a huge container ship coming in.
Back on land we slowly made our way back to our hotel, getting 'supplies' for our trip on the train tonight. Once back at the hotel we picked up our bags (changed our clothes in the lobby washrooms!) and got a taxi to the Pacific Train and Bus Station. We checked in our bags and then waited for the next 3 hours before boarding our train.
We thought the train was leaving early (7:55pm), as we moved out of the station, but then we headed backwards! We were hooking up to another lot of cars (sleepers apparently)! False start! We left on time at 8:30pm on the dot! We should be in Jasper by 4:00pm tomorrow hopefully or without too much delay - fingers crossed!! Here we meet Kelsi and Cameron - Yay!
