Finally hello from Byron Bay. We have now crossed the New South Wales border and we are well on our way down to Sydney.
We left you last time in Hervey Bay. Since then we have visited:
Noosa- 1 week
Brisbane- 3days
Surfers Paradise- 4 days
Byron Bay- 1 week.
As you can see it's been 3 weeks since our last update but we have been having so busy and doing loads of activities.
So, firstly Noosa, this is a really nice Ozzy holiday destination. It is pretty posh and expensive. There were many 'normal people'- not full of backpackers like what we have been used to. Our accomidation was superb, Carly said it remined her of the Forrest Gump House. While we were here the hostel rented out free surf boards. As you can imagine Paul was in his element mixing it with the locals battling for the waves! Carly loved it too as she got to top up her tan- and what a good job she has done!
One day we took a visit to the world famous Steve Irwins, Australia Zoo. This was a wicked zoo as you can have close encounters with lots of Ozzy animals. Carly even got brave and cuddled a Koala and stroked a Kangaroo! The show wasn't quite as good as we thought though. Maybe we were spoilt by the crazy man earlier in the trip at the croc farm!
We also spent a day cruising down the Noosa River. Little did we know there had been Tsunami warnings because of quakes out at sea but the river ferry was calm. The river is lined with luxury villa's. Our last stop was at the harbour where we had the best fish and chips ever!
From the Sunshine coast we headed to the city- the capital of Queensland, Brisbane. Alot of people we have met along the way had moaned about Brisbane saying it was boring but we made the most of it. It much like any other city, lots of shops, restaurants and a river. We did a walking tour visiting the best sights.
The next day Paul noticed a sign on one of the boards with a Guitar for sale for $60. It's only a cheap one but perfect for learning, came with a case, tuner, pics & dvd. I knocked him down to $40- 16quid and haven't looked back since. Everyones got them out here and there are some really good players who Pauls been getting tips off. As Paul was splashing the cash Carly done some retail therapy of her own.
Our next stop was Surfers Paradise. This city was like noithing we have visited on our trip so far. It's kind of like Las Vegas meets tenerife. It's where all the teenagers go for holidays. It has huge skyscrapers, neon lights, drunkern antics and the occasional Elvis. We met up with our German and Canadian friends who we met on Frazer Island. They showed us the best night life, although we weren't too impressed with the house music!
There are many theme parks here, we went to 'Wet n Wild'- no not a porno!! It's a massive water park with scarey rides/slides. We went on the best one's first to avoid the ques, but towards the end we both aggreed that we may be getting a bit too old now as they weren't as exciting as when we were 12! We need some real adrenaline rides- read further down!
On a Tuesday night our hostel put on a Dominoes Pizza night. All you can eat for $5- 2 quid! We loved it and both stuffed our faces till we felt sick!
From Sufers we took the short ride to Byron Bay. This is worlds apart considering it's only 50minutes away by bus. Byron is a really chilled out town, it's similar to Noosa but full of backpackers. The night lifes wicked, our favorite nightspot is Cheekey Monkeys. The play all the classic 80's & 90 tunes, and there's no dance floor just tables and benches to dance on. Here Paul was expecting to surf but the wave's haven't been that great so Pauls spent most of the time relaxing and playing volleyball.
We took a reconmended trip to Nimbin. This is a nearby Hippie town. This is definately nothing we had experienced before and definately one we wouldn't do again. Hippies everywhere, loads of people buying drugs and getting stoned. The tour also took us to a hippies house/shack. He was a proper tree hugger!
We done a massive trek up to the light house and also visited Australias most easterly point. Not sure if it was worth the 2.5 hour up hill walk! Especially as we found our hostel do a Sunrise tour where they take you up by van. Thing was we had to be up at 4.45am. As you can see from the pics Paul wasn't best pleased and he keeps on saying we already have too many pictures of the damn sun!
Yesterday we done our most terrifying/exciting part of the trip to date. Before embarking on our adventure Carly has been excited about the skydive. However when we finally got here and Paul said about doing it the idea didn't seem that great to her. It took 3 solid days of convincing! But how glad we both are that we done it together! Upon landing Carly was so proud of herself she was jumping around and hugging everyone. Infact we were both on a high all day! We both have a dvd of the jump/fall so we'll have to show everyone when we get back as proof! We went fot the highest, best jump 14,000ft. Thats 60 second of free fall and then a 5 minute parachute down to the ground. It was the best possible day to do it as the weather was so nice and there wasn't a cloud in the sky! We could see for 100's of miles! It was the best experience ever!
Just to let you know the Guitars going well and im well on my way to learning 'Stand By Me'. As we're staying in a hippy hostel 50% of the guests have guitars so Pauls been getting plenty of tips and even paid one of them for a lesson!
Lots of love
Carly & Paul
Ps. Happy Birthday Nanny Shirley
