We made some new friends at the hostel yesterday, and together we had a very busy day in Tokyo before heading to Nagoya.
- We got up at 4 am to visit the fish auctions at the fish market, which was incredible. We saw huge amounts of bluefin and yellowfin tuna, being auctioned for hundreds of thousands of Yen.
- We has sushi at 7 am in the fish market, which was a great experience, but quite expensive (I had a single prawn for breakfast - 2 pounds)!
- We visited the Imperial palace and gardens, which was spectacular even in the drizzle.
- We toured the Asahi Newspaper company head office, editorial offices, printing presses and distribution centre. This is equivalent to The Times in the UK. I organised this tour iN March with a contact, and it was far better than I had even expected. The visit was really well organised, and we had two guides plus an editor from the New Zealand bureau acompany us throughout.
- Finally we took the Shinkansen (bullet train) to Nayoga, in preparation for our visit to the Toyota car plant in Toyota City tomorrow.
PS appologies for any typos etc, these Japanese keyboards are ridiculous.
