Today we visited the Toyota car plant. We woke up extremely early and left from Nagoya station for Toyota City. After an extremely complex train journey, we finally arrived in Toyota City and spent the first hour viewing Toyota's prototype and experimental cars, which were extremely innovative. In particular, I was extremely impressed by a ultra-lightweight car made like a shell (see photos).
We were then shown a short video before boarding a bus for a tour of the car plant. Our first stop was the assembly line, where the automated robots assemble and weld the body panels of new cars to form the shape of all cars.Seeing the robots work so fast and so precisely was incredible.
After this, we moved to the trim line, where workers manally attach all the fittings to the inside of the car. Once again, the worker efficiency and the way Toyota manages the whole line was fascinating.
After our 2.5 hour tour we returned to Toyota City station and travelled back to Nagoya. From here we collected our bags and took the ~1 hour Shinkansen 250 km to Kyoto. We stayed in a lovely old guesthouse in the centre of the ancient Geisha district. I was lucky enough to spot a few Geisha girls in the street, while walking to a local temple.
