10.4.2011 On our own behind a grain store in a shut town. Bitterly cold, strong winds, heavy rain and very occasional brief flashes of sunshine.

A surprise of a place. When we arrived we thought it to be not much more than a village, albeit one with high walls and a large castle. Walking in down narrow steep roads lined with small - from the outside - houses in various states of repair we found quite a large town. Warm and sunny the first day, Tuesday has started cold and grey. One other van, Spanish, shares the aire with us.

Quite a large town, nearly all closed today being Good Friday. Trying to combine our need for a drink with WiFi we called in at Brannigans Irish Pub (yes!). There, two espressos costing €2.20 (£1.82) came with not only a chocolate but four tapas. Two were pieces of bread with large garlic mushrooms skewered to them and the other two had a buttery piece of tortilla. We had re-scanned the tv and seemed to have a bigger choice of programmes than recently - thoug...

Another wet day that cleared somewhat in the afternoon. We had stopped at Fromistar on the way here but decided to press on. Fromistar to Carron de Los Condes is on the pilgrim route and this being Easter week the pilgrims were out in force, striding along through the rain sticks in hand and rucksacks under their plastic macs.

We're parked by a river in the company of three other vans. Our first impression was of a seedy, run-down impoverished sort of town, ok for an overnight stop but not much else. We were quite wrong. A five minute stroll along the river bank and into an attractive town, lots of shops, bars, restaurants and parks. What's more, free WiFi in most of the town centers' open spaces.
