27th April. An overnight stop in the rain at Waldfischbach-Burgalben. Had intended filling up with diesel before entering Germany but failed, as both an Intermarché and a Super-U failed to accept either our Halifax MasterCard or Caxton Visa. A Parisian gentleman with quite good English tried to help, saying that he had had to go into the store for instructions, to no avail. A young chap - also French - then tried but his card was also refused. We drove on through Saarbrucken and, having had to crawl in a roadwork induced traffic queue for some miles, pulled off - eventually finding a petrol station.
Sunday 28th., and another wet day. Drove passed Mannheim - start of the Castle Road - to Schwetzingen, where the rain eased enough for us to walk into town. Entry to the Castle and gardens requires inserting some sort of credit card sized pass for entry through the gates. Plenty of ice cream eating Germans promenading.
29th.. A grey, cool day. Visited the town again and had a coffee at a restaurant purporting to offer wifi but which didn't. Lovely red sky at night ....
30th.. .... and the familiar sound of rain on our tin roof in the morning. Mid-morning set off for Heidelberg but couldn't find anywhere to park so returned to Schwetzingen. We had lunch in town and intend taking the train to Heidelberg tomorrow. It was pouring down when we left the restaurant. As an aside, a pleasant way of passing an hour or so is to stand behind an elderly German seeking information at a Tourist Office.
