Beautiful small town with many renovated 17th Century houses. Building regulations must be much more relaxed than in the UK as many towns incorporate shops into these centuries old buildings.
Getting here wasn't easy. Everywhere we've been in Germany there are roadworks and deviations - umleitungs. Several times we've found our route closed and had to detour and Lauterbach, where we had intended stopping, had a large fair on the Stellplatz.
Trauma when we arrived. Our first job is to see if we have a satellite signal. We had. Next we level. Having moved a couple of feet and levelled, we found ourselves with no electrics in the caravan accommodation. All normal in the cab. Having checked every fuse and still no joy, we plugged into the sites electricity, which gave us two lights an electric cooker ring and the DVD player on the otherwise non-functioning TV. Enquiries next morning led us to a caravan workshop some 40km away at Fulda where they diagnosed that one of our two leisure batteries was 'Kaput' and had drained the other. Needless to say, everything was working when we got to the garage!. So now we are down to one leisure battery and will see how we get on. The 5 minute diagnosis cost 25€ and we spent another 30€ on stool cum small table. The garage rate, according to the bill, was a little over 78€ per hour.
We've now retraced our route and are having another night at Alsfeld. 5€ per 24 hours, electricity 0.50€ perKwh, water 1€ and emptying 1€ - Sanistation.
