Hi!
Well this blog is as much for my own record as anybody elses, so I thought i'd try and complete it now I am back in the UK!
After diving in Utila, we got the ferry the next day to mainland Honduras, which gets in to the town of La Ceiba, or just 'ceiba' for short like the locals call it! We didn't stop there and went straight to the bus station and got a 3 hour bus journey to San Pedro Sula. However! The bus seemed to be having some problems and eventually broke down by the side of the road near a bus station! The engine didn't look great and we spent about an hour waiting around in the heat. It was good though, we got chatting with a few other people! Met a group of 3 Irish people, a guy called David, and 2 girls called Janet and Blaithnaid (weird name u know who u are!). eventually we got to San Pedro and stayed the night at a hostel there, in which everyone seemed to be getting the bus to Nicaragua the next day!! After a short nights sleep (we had to get up at 4AM!!!) we got to the bus station and got our tickets thankfully. Everyone was shattered. The bus journey was fine, just really really long and it took a while at the border in Pinas! Eventually we got to Leon, and everyone seemed to be going to the same hostel Lazybones, so we all went there and got to know eachother better. Had a couple of nights out in Leon which were hilarious and very drunken! At one point me and Adam were wandering the streets aimlessly lost trying to get back to the hostel. He insisted he knew where he was going! The next day he told me he was infamous back home for getting his mates lost! Great! Had an amazing hamburger the size of my face though! Got to know Blaithnaid pretty well too with our 'intense' chats haha, covering all sorts of issues in the world!! Apparently im just a 'really really nice guy' haha! Hilarious. We had a look round Leon, then went volcano boarding down Volcan Cerro Negro or 'the black mountain' which was insane! I was pretty hungover and the hour hike up nearly killed me. Nevertheless we made it to the crater and had a look inside it was crazy. The rocks were actually hot and melted Sally's shoes! There was steam and sulphuric gases coming from vents in the volcano too - definitely active! We put our hilarious bright green and yellow gear on, then went hurtling down the volcano on our boards! It was pretty awesome. I threw up from heat exhaustion on the way back though which wasn't fun at all! Everyone was genuinly worried about how i looked haha must have looked ill!
After that, we headed off down to Granada, where we bumped in to the 2 American guys from Utah again (Dimitri and Caleb). Granada was nice and colonial but more of the same in Leon to be honest. So we moved on quickly, straight down to Rivas where we got the boat from San Jorge to the Isla de Omotepe (island of two hills/volcanoes). A very spectacular place! Reached our hostel Hacienda Miranda after about a 2 hour bumpy bus ride. It was worth it though as the hostel was nice and full of awesome people! Dove straight in to the lake, which seemed to stretch out forever! So refreshing. Then after a buffet dinner, we all went out to the pier to watch a spectacular and beautiful sunset. Like nothing i've ever seen before, we could see the sun all the way down to the horizon, with Volcan Concepcion on the right hand side with cloud encircling the crater. After a few beers that night, we started playing cards in a group of us - Dimitri, Caleb, me and Sally, 2 irish girls and Alex (a girl who we met who was living in London and worked for Channel 4). Played s***head and snap til late, then a few of us went down to the pier again to watch an awesome lightning storm that was going on in the distance.
After a few days relaxing on the island, me Sally, the irish and Dimitri and Caleb all got the bus and boat back to the mainland and got to San Juan del Sur. got there and stayed at the most amazing hostel called the Naked Tiger. San Juan was awesome, had some amazing nights out there at Iguana Bar down in the town, spent the next day on the beach and in the sea with DImitri and Caleb. The hostel was awesome, it was a large private house in the hills that an American named Jeff had bought (he was crazy), it had a pool over looking the bay of San Juan which was amazing! The last night of travelling was spent partying in the jungle at Treetop Hostel for a full moon party. The night was pretty crazy, as you had to drink on the buss on the way there, then hike up this mountan into the jungle to get there! I was bare foot most of the time! Had an awesome night though, eventually crawled into bed at about 7AM! We also bumped into the Irish there again as well which was cool! We then got the Tica bus on the Sunday afternoon all the way in to Costa Rica, reaching San Jose eventually and getting a hostel just minutes from the airport.
The flight the next day was so so long! the first was okay, and just watched movies etc, but the second was pretty long even though it was only 6 hours from Newark NY to the UK! I didn't sleep much! Had a massive American McDonalds at Newark NY airport though which was great!
Anyway, back in the UK now ready to move on to other things!
