Hello everyone, I´ve gotten back from the Amazon River now! We flew into Iquitos and started the 3 day tour the next day on the 6th April. It was AWESOME! i have to do a quick blog update as i dont have much time. on the first day we dumped our bags at the Cumaceba jungle lodge (huts on stilts in the middle of the jungle) and went for a guided walk into the jungle. Our guide, Ceasar, showed us all sorts of different plants and trees, pointed out prehistoric birds which were massive and had spiked feathers off their heads. Saw some big amazon spiders and some bugs which looked like leaves too! After that, we went on a boat down the Amazon River (it is massive) to an open jungle zoo. it was basically a couple of rooved huts and trees. It was an amazing place, we got to play with the monkeys (spider monkeys, woolley monkeys, and small multicoloured ones too!) saw a toucan, a macaw, a tarantula spider on a tree. I got to hold a Sloth! it was an amazing creature! their faces are so tiny, and it seemed to be able to twist its neck all the way round and look at you curiously. Big curved claws too. Such a funny looking thing it was amazing! I will try upload some pics when i have more time! The monkeys were climbing all over us, one even stole Stephs earing! she managed to get it back though. We also saw a prehistoric turtle which looked like some kind of ancient mud creaturs. so weird. I got to hold a Ring Boa round my neck it was huge!!! quite scary having it round my neck, it was hissing and trying to wriggle off, had to hold its neck tightly so it wouldnt bite me. Related to a Boa Constrictor apparently. The zoo was amazing! After that, it was back to the lodge for dinner, then a night walk into the jungle with just flash lights. it was pitch black, bugs all around! Saw some awesome looking spiders and bugs, and some massive coloured frogs on the floor. saw like 15 of them! it was an awesome experience walking through the jungle in the pitch black, just with our flashlights to light the way.
2nd day was spent visiting a jungle tribe village which was cool. Met the locals! Learnt a bit about their tribe, and practiced using a blow gun. Also bought some souvenirs. Later we swam in the amazon river, and visited another village.
3rd day we went piranna fishing in the morning which was awesome! They were really quick to steal the bait off the fishing line, but i managed to catch 2 for lunch! got some great pics! We ate lunch, then packed and went back to Iquitos where we went for some dinner at a Texan restaurant, then got the flight back into Lima. Staying in Milaflores which is a really nice district in Lima, in the Loki Backpackers hostel. Went clubbing the other night but i was so tired! Then went Paragliding off the cliffs at the beach yesterday it was great! went for a nice meal on the sea front too. Anyway I better go now, got to look round a bit of Lima before getting a 22 hour bus journey straight to Cusco ready for the Inca Trail on the 14th April!
