Hello boys and girls!!!
So sorry for the belated blog update...getting on our site out here has proven more difficult than we thought. So I thought I'd update you on our recent adventures and we promise to fill in gaps asap.
After a lovely trip to Chiang Mai, followed by a couple of days in Bangkok we made our way to the southern island of Koh Tao. So another overnight bus ride followed by an early-morning ferry meant that we arrived on the island at about 9am. Here we managed to make our way to a 'resort' called Tairee Cottages where we got a hut to ourselves for a grand total of 400 Baht (less than $12!!!). The resort was right next to the beach where beach bars lined the stretch. Heaven! As we were quite tired after our long coach journey, most of the day was spent on the beach, eating freshly cut pineapple. In the evening we managed to find a restaurant along the beach where you were so close to the water we actually had to lift up our feet to stop them getting wet! And have to say, the seafood here was absolutely amazing!
The next day we decided to explore the other areas of the islands so hired out a couple of bikes, a really great way of getting around on the tiny island. We managed to visit both Shark beach (don't worry, didn't actually see any sharks) and freedom beach where I (Mette) unfortunately got stung by a jellyfish. But don't worry, luckily some locals were kind enough to smear some green herbal gunk on the sting to stop it hurting. Not sure it actually did anything but was quite funny and really nice of them. On the way back we spotted a mini golf place so decided to have a game. They also had a bowling alley (well more like 4 lanes that looked like they hadn't worked in years) but decided to give it a miss and head back to the beach. That evening we spent on the beach watching the most beautiful sunset. We'll try to put some pictures up but even they don't do it any justice. It was amazing! After dinner we headed for a couple of drinks at the beach bar, followed by the most amazing pancake on the way home. This guy moved so fast you can't believe it but his pancakes were fantastic! Needless to say I returned every evening for another fix hehe.
The next couple of days were pretty much spent lazing on the beach and even had a massage on the beach at sunset on the last night...enough said! Unfortunately we only had a few days before we had to catch our flight to KL so on the 11th we caught the overnight boat and bus to Phuket. This was probably one of the most unique experiences of our trip. The beds consisted rows of thin matresses on the floor, approx 30cm wide...not quite luxury and with quite stormy weather we didn't get too much sleep. The bus that followed was really comfortable though, unfortunately they had lied to us slightly when they told us what time it would get to Phuket so the tuk tuk journey to the airport was in record time. We made it though and arrived in KL on the 12th in the afternoon.
Well, hope you enjoyed reading about our adventures in Koh Tao. Now on to KL...
Take care all and hope to hear from you soon.
Much love,
Mette and Paul
