Hello again,
Well, I'm not exactly sure when our last blog entry was but we have now joined our Tour group and have been in Cambodia for a few days. Anyhow, here's the story so far...
We all met in Bangkok on the evening of 29th for a briefing before going out for a meal and a few drinks. It was really great meeting everyone and we managed to go for a meal just off Khao San Road which was nice for a change. Our tour guide is really great despite only having been in his job for a few months. He's Cambodian which also makes our life a lot easier over here.
After a few hours sleep we left Bangkok by 'VIP'mini van at 7am, quite a challenge but managed to sleep a bit on the comfortable bus to the border. After the border, however was a different story!!! The road was OK literally the first few hundred metres after which the amount of giant holes is just indescribable! But we made it (with a few pit stops on the way) to Siem Reap at about 7pm...a nice long day of driving but good for getting to know people. The evening consisted of a local meal (best food I think I've vere tried) followed by drinks and pool at a bar in town. Still can't get over how cheap everything is here, we're not spending more than about $10 per day on food and drink!
Yesterday again started with a nice early day at Angkor, visiting some amazing temples and stopping for lunch again at a local restaurant. Felt very local this time as Paul's meal took about 2 hours to arrive!!! The afternoon was spent at the Temple where Tomb Raider was filmed and also a brief visit to Angkor Wat, however the rain meant we had to come back today. In the evening we managed to get to see a traditional dancing show while having a buffet/. The food here was amazing, although the deserts left a little to be desired!
Finally today we managed to see Angkor Wat in all its glory....yep we actally got up at sunrise (Paul included!!!) and got some amazing photos of the famous temple. It was a real experience and well worth the early start. This afternoon we've seen a coup-le of more temples and off to the floating market later.
Right, that's about it folks.
Hope all's well at home and we'll update you on our travels as soon as we can,
Mette and Paul
