Dear All,
First thing is to say "Nay see tha thong" or "Happy New Year"
Hope you enjoyed our recent pics of the tiger temple. That was a day never to be forgotten!
Yesterday, we hired a jeep and decided to tour the island of Koh Samui. Our first stop was to the main waterfall on the island, called Nan Tok Na Muang. We thought it best to hire a guide to take us to the top. We had no idea it would be such a hike. In places, it was quite dangerous and our whole trip could have hinged on one slip up. Once at the top, we had a swim in the waterfall itself. All the tour companies stop at the lower tier and nobody would ever see the spectacular views from the top.
Shortly after that, Marion stopped to buy some water while I sat in the car watching the world go by, when suddenly, a car decided to do a U turn and wipe up two people on a moped not 20 feet away from me. The car driver sped off but not before I took his number, stopped the traffic, helped the people up off the road, picked up their moped and helped them to side of the road. They weren't seriously hurt and I told them the registration number which they put into their mobile phone. Next stop, the police station, where I gave my name, hotel and room number. Once a cop, always a cop! If I'm lucky, I might get a call to give evidence!
Then we went to a number of various beaches around the island and found Mae Nam, which we thought the best. Also visited Bophut beach and the last stop was to see the Big Buddha. Huge statue at the end of the beach. These people are so reverend and passionate about their religion.
In the evening, I have to confess that I overdosed on Long Island Iced Teas and tried to haggle a little too dramatically in the market, even when I didn't want them in the first place.
Today, we went snorkelling to an island resort called Koh Nangyuan. It was about 1.5 hours by sea catamaran but it's the closest we've ever been to paradise. The water was turquoise blue and the different coloured fish was simply stunning. At one point a shoal of Parrot fish appeared before us and swam right in into our masks. We felt like we were being attacked by them. We took our underwater camera with us and took a roll of film inside 30 minutes. It was a new experience for us to see so many different coloured fish among the coral. Loved every minute!
Back to the hotel and changed for the Chinese New Year dinner on the beach. The staff have worked really hard transforming the beach into a Chinese restaurant, with lanterns, Lion dancing and fireworks going off all along the beach. The staff all wore red, so I wore my Arsenal shirt and all of a sudden, they all wanted to buy it! English football is SO popular here but most support Man Utd or Liverpool. The only Spurs shirt I have seen, belonged to the cleaners, who use it to clean the toilet seats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought you'd like that John G.
We leave this resort tomorrow and we'll miss it. It's probably the best hotel we have ever stayed at as it ticks all the right boxes, for location, service, assistance, friendliness, decor and facilities. Flying to Krabi on Saturday as our visa is only good until the 16th then we must leave Thailand and head off to Malaysia.
Meanwhile, we are both well but doing so much. On Koh Phi Phi we should be able to relax more. It's still so hot during the day and barely gets below 80 at night. I'm sure we're losing weight.
Update you all soon. Send us your news because we want to hear from you too.
Love,
Paul & Marion
