Paul and Laura on Tour
Friday 11th August: We finally said goodbye to glacier country and packed our achey bums back into Bertha. The next drive was a long one but we had secret info (From Mr Lonely Planet..so not very secret!) that along the way was a not very well known lake where we could get picture postcard views of Mount Tasman and Mount Cook. They were not wrong!!
We did the walk round the lake (We're becoming very accustomed to our walking, armed with our horrid walking shoes!) Once round the far side of the lake, we were faced with a view I dont think I'll ever forget. The lake was like a mirror with the snow capped mountains reflected perfectly in it. It was awesome. We were the only people about and it was so peaceful. Something you rarely get at home. It was a definate kodak moment. Just not convinced the camera did it justice.
We walked back round the lake, stopping at the lodge for afternoon tea and cakes with a backdrop of the Southern Alps. Superb!
We then carried on our marathon drive towards Wanaka (When I see 'we' I really mean paul as he's the pilot!). We arrived late afternoon to Wanaka and were shocked to find it was absolutely heaving. This was definately not something we are used to! It being winter and all! But we were now in ski land so from now on its peak season! (And peak season prices...ouch!).
Wanaka's a cute little ski town with some amazing scenary. Just a shame we cant ski! Instead we booked to go to the local cinema 2mo, and odd thing to do but this cinema is supposed to be awesome! Oh and I booked to do a sky dive....again!!
Saturday 12th August: Got up early in preparation for my skydive (woohoo!)...and it was cancelled!! :( This time due to high winds! Ah well! So we had a morning to kill as we weren't due at the cinema till the afternoon.
We ended up at the most bizarre place Ive been to whilst here, Puzzling World! Paul loved it, loads of optical illusions and a maze. The cafe even had puzzles for you to do whilst you sat there (We ended up in there for an hour as Paul was determined to finish his! I gave up obviously!). We definately found which one of us has patience and which one doesnt! I made Paul cheat on the maze as I got bored!
In the afternoon we went off to Cinema Paradiso. Run by a really friendly scots man, its set in an old townhall and consists of a cafe and one screen. The screen however has no cinema seats but instead has a random assortment of lazy boy chairs, big squishy sofas and even an old morris minor! Amazing! We opted for the sofa but Paul had his eye on the car all the way through! We watched the new Superman film. Half way through was an intermission where they brought out freshly baked cookies, home made ice cream and glasses of milk! It was so cool!
Decided to set off driving after the cinema as it wasnt too late and off we headed for the excitment capital of new zealand Queenstown (perhaps I'll get to do my skydive?! Third time lucky?!!)
Love to everyone! Not long left now! :( xxxxxxxxxxxx
