Paul and Laura on Tour
Tuesday 15th August - Today we were heading to the Milford Sound. It's about a 2hour drive from Te Anua and it was one of the most beautiful we've done. The mountains were all snow covered and there was even some by the side of the road. I got excited about going down a the Homer tunnel through one of the mountains even if Laura didn't! Arrived in one piece despite all the warning signs about avalanches and hopped on a boat. It took a while to get used to the commentary in korean and japanese too but the sun was out and the sound looked beautiful. There had been enough rain to keep the waterfalls still flowing into it which makes it even more spectacular, it was easy to see why it's so popular for visitors to see. On the way back the boat dropped us off at an underwater observatory. We only stayed for half an hour but it was really interesting to be able to watch the sea life from about 10m below the surface.
I'd promised Laura we'd stop on the way back to play in the snow and we managed to do this at the same time as another couple we'd been chatting to on the trip so we proceed to build a snowman! See the pic, not bad for a few minutes work! Set off getting back to Te Anua again for that night.
