Sun 17th Sept: We woke up early to catch the 6am bus to Arica, North Chile. We arrive in Arica about 5pm that evening. The bus trip there took us through a very famous desert (forgotten the name now)...and supposedly one of the dryest places in the world. anyway when we got to Arica we got a taxi that took us across the border to Tacna, Peru. Check out the picture of the Peruvian sun. When we arrived in Tacna some tour guides basically confused the both of us and before we knew it we had paid out way too much money for a bus to Cusco...or so we thought! we basically got screwed...once in 4 weeks insnt too bad!!! We hopped on an overnight bus at about 9pm which took us through some really rocky roads (if you can call them roads). We arrived in puno Mon 18th sept at 10am after what we beleived to be the worst bus journey we had ever taked......we didnt know what was ahead of us! turns out the guide who screwed us also only gave us a ticket to puno and not to Cusco...which is where the ticket said the bus was going. So again we were stuck..in Puno - a s*** whole! evetually after abit of complaining we managed to get a ticket to Cusco for free. The bus we got on next to take us to Cusco was actually a local bus and it stopped off in every town on the way to Cusco...a 5 hour relaxing journey now became a 8hr journey from hell. the bus stopped every 20mins to pick up someone who was selling something..and what were they selling.......s***, absolute s***!!!!! we were cramped in with locals who litterally stunk of piss...and we soon found out why - the bus would stop every hour or so and everyone would get out and piss on the road..men and women...it was sick.sick...sick! they pissed in peoples garndes, outside shops....amazing!!! we arrived in cusco in the evening and to our suprise still had lots of energy so we had some dinner and then got drunk till 4am in the morn. a good night.
