Day 56 and we were up and about by 10am and had some toast as we bought bread and jam, and the hostel had a fridge so we could keep our own food. We had already decided that we would go and see the Heritage sites in the old town of Melaka. The first thing we got to was a museum located on a massive old ship, which was a replica of a Portuguese trading ship called the Flor De La Mar. We went on the ship and read about the History of Melaka. The Ship was air conditioned which was good as yet again, we were sweating bucket loads. It was horrific. My T-Shirt was dripping wet with sweat. We walked further into the town centre and found a small market with a mountain, church, and town square. We then walked down Jonker Walk which is the main street of Chinatown. There were loads and loads of market stalls selling all sorts of things. We sat down at a cafe called Geographers where we had a few beers, a sarnie and surfed the internet. After a while relaxing here in the blazing heat, we headed back to the hostel where Helen and Coops phoned home while Luke and I observed Burns have a truly epic shave. He hadn't shaved in about 28 days and his beard was thicker than his hair on his head. We made sure we got photos at every stage of the shave, and found his handlebars very creepy. I then had an internet session while the others were in the hostel. We ate a local coffee house called, The Old Coffee house, which had free Wi-Fi. As you can tell we are constantly on the lookout for internet now Luke has a Laptop. We headed back to the hostel, watched the film 'Wanted' and then headed to bed.
Day 57 and we planned to go to an area of Melaka which had lots of things to do, a Zoo, Go Karting etc. We headed to the bus stop which ended up being us standing at the side of a 3 lane carrageway trying to flag down a bus. Once we got Ayer Keoah we went to a resort called Mini Malaysia which we took one look at and decided not to bother. We walked down the main road until we reached a Crocodile farm. Inside we saw loads of massive crocodiles and all sorts of lizards. At one point there was a caged area where a rather big croc was lying near the bar door with its back to us. Luke had the clever idea to touch its back. As he did, it roared up on its back legs and turned to face us. Burns nearly threw up he was so scared, whilst me Coops and Luke jumped away. It seemed like a good idea at the time. There was also a haunted house with mirrors that we went in which made us look tall, short, fat, thin. Then we entered the dark scary bit, which Helen and Laura were so scared of, they made us lads go first. They kept jumping and screaming as things were making them jump and frightened. Afterwards we found a Go Kart track next door. Me Coops and Luke all had a go as Burns and Helen sat it out. Luke was the fastest yet again, I was second and Coops was last, though she complained she had a slow Kart (I Just think it was sour grapes). Once we got back to the hostel, we had some more drinks in the coffee house and spent some more time internet surfing. Luke had 3 coffees and was well hyper, it was hilarious. Something amazing happened, as for the first time I think ever; Coops swore whilst playing cards. She has always stated she never swears. We had dinner at a place the girls chose, called Secret Recipe, which surprise surprise, did excellent cakes and bakery items. The food was good; I had spicy Tom Yum Spaghetti. Afterwards we played cards and to our disbelief, Helen and Coops 'Wanted' to play P&A!
Day 58 and as it was our last day in Melaka we weren't 100% sure what to do. We were awake by 10 and it was the hottest day ever, (we later found out it was 32-33 degrees). As soon as I stepped outside the sweat started. We headed to Jonker walk again as the girls wanted to by some things from the market. Whilst they did this us lads went to the Geographers Cafe and had some beers for breakfast. We also played the drinking name game to liven things up. There were several popular names that kept occurring, Steven Segal, Gary Glitter, Harry Hill, Marilyn Manson, Darren Day to name a few. We found it highly amusing at the time. After a few hours the girls returned and we headed to the hostel. We played some cards and had a nap as we were advised to go out later to the night market in the Chinatown. We headed to Jonker Walk and the first thing we saw was a large crowd gathered round an old Malaysian man who had a microphone headset. He was shouting lots (in Malay) and the locals were laughing lots. We soon realised his 'act' was he could jam his finger threw the shell of a coconut. He did lots of Meditating and Kung Fu style moves before he started jamming his finger hard into the shell and soon he had cracked the shell with his index finger alone. Everyone clapped and he showed the crowd his finger afterwards as it was bent and bloody. He put some fluid on it and after a while it had soon healed, pretty weird. We wandered more through hundreds of stalls and found Geographers again (it was the main bar/cafe in the area). We had some dinner here. We also saw some live music and it turned out the 60 year old, one man band Malaysian man was named Burns (imagine the jokes we came up with). He was playing classics such as Pink Floyd, The Eagles, and finally, Ronan Keating. As we started walking home about 1130pm, it started raining, heavily! We got soaked, literally drenched on the 15 min walk home. Wearing a shirt was a bad choice. We got back, hung all the clothes up to dry and headed to bed. We were planning to be up by 11am as we were heading to Singapore tmoro.
Day 59 and we checked out of Sunnys Inn by 12. This was a good thing as I think I broke the shower before we left. We got a bus to the bus station and from there spent 22.10 Ringgit for a ticket to Singapore. We waited until 2.30 for our departure time thinking that the journey would take a couple of hours. The journey was much longer than this. Along the way we bought cookies and crisps and made a mess on the seats. We went through the city of Johor Bahau on the way and had to go through 2 checkpoints and customs before we got to the Singapore bus station. By this time I had played loads of Solitaire on my Ipod and listened to dozens of Karl Pilkington podcasts. We wandered around Little India for about an hour looking at all the hostels but none had room for 5 people. After an hour or so we had to go for a hotel which wasn't too bad. We had 2 double beds in a room so we had to cram 3 into 1 of the beds. We had a curry at the first curry house we found on the aptly named 'Curry Corner'. We walked round little India some more but then headed back up to the hotel room as everyone was shattered from carrying their bags round loads. On the way back we popped into the Prince of Wales hostel by chance and managed to book a room for the following night which was a massive bonus as it looked like a really lively place. Once back at the hotel me and Burns shared a double while Luke, Coops and Helen shared the other. The beds were covered in a plastic sheet (like you get when you buy a new bed) and so whenever anyone moved it sounded like an elephant rolling around in plastic. To make it worse, Burns had an awful cough and was coughing loads! We tried sleeping but Coops kept complaining that she didn't like the silence and needed someone to talk before she could sleep.
