Day 52 and after spending last night cooped up in our room trying to work out where to go down south around the Melaka area, we decided not to leave, and to spend a few more days in KL. This was because after Melaka we plan to head straight to Singapore and we didn't want to spend to long in an expensive city. We had a lie in due to us not leaving and had a fry up breakfast on the rooftop bar. Burns had a pancake covered in Hundreds and Thousands. We decided to try and head to the park by the Petronas towers (KLCC Park). We got the LRT train to the towers, and wandered to the park. It was so hot, hottest day yet in KL, and my back was a river of sweat, and it didn't help that Burns and Luke kept pressing their hands against my back. I then had to do it back to them, which made us look like stupid kids. The park was really nice, lots of benches and grassy areas so us lads found an open area, took our sweaty t-shirts off and started playing frisbee. 5 minutes into our fun, and a small fat security guard came over and told us we had to put our shirts back on, and stop playing frisbee. We couldn't believe it, so we had to sit down and play cards / boggle on a bench (nowhere near as much fun). We walked more round the park, sat down by a lake and put our feet in the water, and soon got told off by another security guard for doing that, and had to put our flip flops back on. Ridiculous. We headed back to the hostel on the LRT where we watched heroes on Luke's Laptop. After a short nap, we headed downstairs where me and Burns tried a can of Kingfisher beer (which was nice). We had dinner at the really good Chinese restaurant with a couple of beers, and then headed to the rooftop bar where me and Burns planned to stay until 2am to watch the football. We ended up having a fair few beers, Liverpool drew 0-0 and Arsenal lost 3-0 which didn't help. We tried to watch the game after the Liverpool one but couldn't keep our eyes open so went back to the room and passed out.
Day 53 and we slept in till about midday due to our late night previous (it was a Sunday so it felt right to sleep in). We again had breakfast on the rooftop bar. I had a shave, and we then decided to split into 2 groups, us 3 lads would head to a driving range just outside the city, and the girls would wander to yet another market and probably find a bakery or coffee shop and sit and gossip and do other girly things. We got a cab to the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club 15 minutes outside the city. Our taxi driver was a bit of geezer to say the least, eyeing up every woman he saw and talking like a London cabby. The golf club itself was posh, very posh, like some of the golf clubs I've played at in England (Wentworth springs to mind). We turned up in t shirts and board shorts (looking completely out of place) but found the pro shop, bought some balls, rented some clubs (driver and 7 iron) and headed for the top deck of the range. Burns was actually pretty good, he hit some decent shots (most with a fade/slice) but got some good distance. Luke was less accustomed to golf but did well and even hit some decent drives. There was also a comical incident when the ball vending machine which ran behind all the bays on the ceiling broke and hundreds of golf balls were being fired out all over the bays. We found this highly amusing and Burns and Luke even went down the range and pikeyed a few balls and brought them back to our bay. Burns and Luke accidently sliced some drives over the protective netting to the right of the range and in to the car park (though there were no cars there). Burns also managed to top a few which was highly amusing while Luke was aiming for the man walking round the range near the back. We got the same taxi back with the same crazy driver again. Once back we met up with the girls who had a 'lovely day' at the market looking at 'nik nakky things' and other bits and bobs. Burns came up with one of the best 'If your surname was names' yet (e.g. If your surname was Pot, would you call your son Jack - i.e., Jack Pot). He said, "If your surname was seed, would you call your daughter Anna?" This is the sort of thing we talk about all the time. We had dinner near the hostel at a place where they serve rice and chicken cooked in a massive clay pot. It was really nice, apart from the burnt black rice stuck to the bottom. I went on the internet in a local cafe, and when I returned to the hostel I found the other 4 sitting around the TV with a few other people watching Coupling on the big screen (from Luke's IPod). They were all laughing loads and seemed to be getting the other travellers into it. After a few episodes and a few more beers we headed to the room where we watched some Look Around You which had us in tears it was so funny and headed to bed.
Day 54 and we had all agreed this really would be our last day in KL and we would head to Melaka tmoro. We didn't really have anything planned so we headed to the mall to try and do some xmas shopping and grab any cheap clothes we could find. We had pork and noodles for breakfast, well me Luke and Burns did, but the girls went without. We got to the mall, lost Burns for about an hour, and then spent a few hours in the arcade (how cool are we!) We played table football, which me and Coops won beating Luke and Helen (Burns was still lost at this time). During the afternoon we did nothing, and then headed out for dinner at a local curry house. We all ordered our food (Helen and Coops were a bit dubious as they had got ill after our last curry). They got the order wrong to start with, then they brought Helen a Lamb Curry which was meant to be mild but was too spicy for her, so I ate it. Helen didn't eat anything as a result and then did the one thing we all hoped no one would do on our 8 month trip .... have a McDonalds! We forgave her, eventually, and we ourselves had milkshakes (which doesn't count as an actual McDonalds cause it's not a meal).
Day 55 and we made the most of our last day in the hostel and the check out time of midday. We slept in till 11, and left the hostel by half past. We paid 2 pound for our bus ticket to Melaka, and in the end there were only 7 people on a 40 seater coach, which meant we had 2 seats each and loads of legroom. Once we reached Melaka we got a taxi to our hostel, we had to go in 2 separate taxis, me Coops and Burns in one, Helen and Luke in the other. The taxi drivers were crazy. They drove like there were in a car chase in a movie. They were overtaking cars on blind corners, speeding through stop signs, going round junctions the wrong way. I feared for my life at one point, they were that crazy (no seatbelts too). Once at our Hostel, Sunnys Inn, Luke and Helen confirmed that their driver was just as mad. We settled in, then walked around the town, which is quite historical as it was once ruled by the Portuguese, then the Dutch, and then the Brits. We reached an open area of grass, and thought, anexcellent spot to get the frisbee out. After 5 mins of awesome throwing (the wind was strong) we got told to stop by a security guard. We were starting to think Frisbee was illegal in Malaysia. We then met up with the girls, who had been sitting in Starbucks for an hour or so, drinking coffee and tea, and using the internet. We left Starbucks about 9pm and headed straight to a Tandoori House near our hostel for dinner as we had barely eaten anything all day. Me and Luke went for the Vindaloo which was awesome (but not very spicy); Helen had a Korma, while Burns and Laura had some other Chicken related meals. Well good food, service wasn't the best, as per usual. In the Hostel while I was sorting some photos on the laptop the other 4 played a crazy board game with the local man who owned the hostel. It involved a board, 4 pockets in the corner, and the aim was to flick coins into the corners. The game was called Carrom and seemed a bit crazy (though I wasn't really paying attention). We then watched the film 21 on the hostels DVD player which was good, and headed to bed. Me and Burns got up at 330am (after the alarm going off 3 times) to watch Arsenal play in the champions league. If people think that's a bit silly, me and Burns have a football pact where we watch the other persons team whenever there on. This meant I had to watch the game in the early hours. Arsenal won 1-0.
